Battlefield New York BETA Testing & Discussion

I wouldnt call it "Mercenary Elite", it could theoretically get confusing with the other names (conscript, regular, veteran etc.)

i would call it Mercenary Infantry or something like that :)

Hmm, good point. Seeing as in the backstory for the scenario the UK was overrun, I guess I'll call it SAS Mercenary.

EDIT: Of course it is Weasel who will make the final decision on what the units are called.:)

:bump: Of course when I said "about a week" I didn't mean literally 1 week.... :mischief:

The comment about wanting to kick myself was referring to the resources. I didn't realize until then that I needed to put all strategic and luxury resources on flat ground, like in EFZI, so that I could disallow "roads" (trade connections) though buildings. Otherwise you'll have tanks driving right through an office building wherever there is a trade connection....

I'm still waiting for Shiro's SWAT Police and Flamand's Police Cruiser (hint hint! ;)) Did Wyrm release his police unit pack? I don't know where he posts his units now...

Here are some other units I need, but I'm pretty sure most don't exist (or I'm using the ones that do and need more):
modern police officer
American paramilitary soldier
a few "insurgent" type units, just some crazy guys with guns
gangster(s) with guns
a few modern or near future Russian/European infantry
a modern Army unit
a hero unit for each faction

Later I'll post a screenshot of all the current units, and maybe a unit chart.

BTW, I added some boats. A raft for transporting foot units, an overhauled motorboat for transport and defense, and a PT Boat for attacking. I also plan to add some larger ships which will be spawned periodically at the Naval Yard, dependent upon who controls it.

if the insurgents have trenchcoats, then i'll second them. and then that person can release the trenchcoat prop, and i can be on my merry way.

brown trenchcoats will suit me. and if they have both machine pistols and rifles, then i'll be really satisfied :)

Here is current lineup for ARM infantry. I decided to drop the third assault unit for each faction, since there are too many infantry units for a 1-era scenario. An asterisk denotes the GA unit(s).

what about the other (urban looking) riot cop??

and there is a new "SAW Gunner" that seems to want to be in BfNY if you havent seen it

also...GA units?? whats that mean?

are both Russian Assaults black(african) for a reason?...not that I care, it just struck me as odd since Ive never seen a Black Russian(not that there arent any black(is that the right word? I hate the political correctness America forces down our throats) russians)...

and before you say it(you know who you are) YES, I know that a Black Russian is a mixed drink...sheesh

I didn't have a place for 2 different riot police units so I used Shiro's, which should have an accompanying SWAT unit. :mischief:

They're both in there... ;)

Units that start a Golden Age. Unique Units, except that they're all unique...

The first one, the FARC, is a Latin-American revolutionary unit. I thought it looked like a Cuban mercenary/auxiliary. The second one just seemed to fit. Keep in mind that this is the new USSR, not just Russia. They practically control Europe and the Middle-east, so not all of their forces would be Russian. Plus these "light infantry" units would be more likely to be composed of foreign recruits or coalition soldiers.
The pedia will explain all.... eventually. :)

I was going through pediaicons.txt, searching for unused units so I could delete them from the mod folder. I discovered that the Peacekeeper is one such unit, and found this to be quite amusing:

Yes, I'm in file cleanup mode, which means the beta is practically ready to go! There are a few cosmetic things that need to be done, but those can wait for now.

Whooo Hoooo...Beta Time...!!

The Peacekeeper huh?...that does seem funny...but there have been so many good units made since the first unit lines, that Im not surprised...

Are we using the female commando by NavyDawg? or the new Colombian Infantry by SoG??? they are both great units...just wondering...

when the beta comes out, I can use Bryce to make all new and improved Hills and Mountains, and possibly swamps...I forget what we used for what...My skills have gotten ALOT better since the ealry BfNY stuff

Yes, the lines have changes considerably since alpha testing. A lot of the older units have been replaced.

The female commando and Bedouin are both in. I haven't seen swoggy's unit.. I'll check it out, but I don't know where I'd put it, unless it could pass as Russian infantry.

Great. :)

So Weasel, when can we expect the beta if you don't mind me asking? I only ask because, to be honest, the anticipation of playing this scenario is the only reason CivIII is still on my computer.

the "Races" Icon...sure, I'll get on it tomorrow morning...do you want it to reflect ACTUAL gangs, or just mimic the style?

[edit] here is a screenie of the first attempt to work on the hills...lemme know what needs to change...what you like and what you dont as far as building shapes/textures/layout/number of buildings...etc...
