Nah, the beatboxing harmonica is definitely cooler. I've been playing blues harmonica for a couple of months, but I've never heard anything like that before!

you play harp too caesar? Harmonica is amazing. I've been playing for like 2 years now

Yep, it's fun, but it's tough to find tabs and other people who play. You're only the second person I've met who plays it. Do you have a few in different keys or just one?

I have every key except for B...since i play in clubs in DC. Tabs are tricky, so i try to learn by ear.

G is the most fun...easy to bend

I only have a C (so far), and the only bend I've got down is the 1 draw.

I've figured out a couple of songs by ear, but often I just kinda hold the thing and see what sort of music comes out, which is pretty cool too. I like the fact that it doesn't take much practice to sound decent; otherwise I'd be a bother to those around me. (Like when my sister tried to take up the trumpet...)

Uh ... do you mean this sort of harp?

I play that sort (intermittently), never heard of these tabs, bends and needing keys.
(EDIT - this is a Google Images harp, not mine)

Wow...it's like Dylan on drugs.
Wait.....

Anyway, I always wanted to play the harmonica (to go with my guitar so I could play like dylan), but I never know where to start :(

Nahhh, sorry. Harp = slang for Harmonica.

I highly recomend it to people. If you practice for 2 hours, you've pretty much got it. The difference between a guy who's been playing for 2 hours and 2 weeks is really just the number of songs you know. Plus, chicks dig it

Here's how I did it.
First, purchase a low end harmonica in the key of C. Hotmetal is a good brand. Dont get one that has wooden dividers. Those are more expensive, and harder to bend (although, in the long run, they are better harmonicas).

With Hotmetals, there is a little diagram inside the case that tells you how to play "saints go marching in", as well as a diagram to bend notes.

Then, grab a recording of some Dylan tunes, Pianoman, and some blues traveler, and try to match pitches. If you have a friend that plays bass or piano, jamming to a simple G blues walk also teaches you how to solo.

then just play to songs on the radio, and get other keys. you're set then

Well, Ive got a couple of harmonicas anyway (Hohners) but I dunno what key they're in

there should be a letter written on the right hand corner of the harp, past the 10 hole

I bought a couple of "learn to play harmonica" books and went to few "learn to play harmonica" websites. I would definitely recommend it, it's a fun little instrument (and a very expressive one at that) and it fits conveniently in your pocket. Plus, everyone on a college campus plays guitar, but very few play the harp.
