Only just saw this on CNN, but it had been out on the news service here half an hour ago. He died on Thursday in LA, at 1330 local time, attended by wife, son and friends. He had been treated recently for cancer that had spread throughout his body.
This event does sadden me, as we see a musical legend and a thoroughly decent human being depart somewhat early. Even though the Beatles were well before my lifetime, I still did grow up to them, so it does feel like I lost someone that I know. Perhaps some older posters would be able to understand this.
Even though there has been so much tragedy lately, and this does pale in comparison overall, it is still sad, and a great man will be sorely missed.

He was one of those that made me start playing the guitar...

Greetings,

I know the Beatles are badly overplayed on most radio stations and everyone fawns over them whenever they're about - but they were one of the most revolutionary rock bands ever and another one of them, George Harrison, is dead this morning (apparently of cancer).

The Beatles' impact was worldwide; bands in the Polish and Hungarian rock worlds in the 1960s and 70s were emulating them, as well as just about everywhere. I suspect that the whole world spawned "Beatles-wannabees". Their music, their themes, their styles, their lyrics; modern popular music owes much to these guys.

George was the quiet one, though he did a lot of their song writing (not lyric) and musically was probably the most talented of the 4.

*Sigh* I suppose I'll go and listen to the White Album...

It is a very sad day for music around the world, and for people in general, as we've lost a very special person.

Hmmmm..... It seems like i have seen one of theese threads around somewhere! And created by someone who has posted here. Hmmmmm....

Yes, its called expressing and sharing grief, sorrow, and celebrating a great life. In this type of time and situation, I'll try and do that, boy.

Mea culpa. I didn't see the original thread. I had just read the news and was bit focused...

It's been a bit hard to focus for us all. I dug out "All Things Must Pass" and sat back for a bit. It didn't help, but helped one remember.

Give me hope, give me hope, give me peace on earth, give me life...

Only George or John could deliver such a lyric and not get mocked or laughed at.

Another of the truly good people has left us, farewell, Mr Harrison, you will be missed...:(

Even though I have always hated pop...
I have to say he was a legend of British music.

Rip-offs like oasis can't compare,

Dudes like Geo Harrison cannot be replaced...But the music lives on.

He is entering eternity...:(

He pay-rolled ALOT of Monty Python -"The life of Brian" for example...for which I am truely grateful...

At least he died rich...

Guitars all over the world are no longer gently weeping, they are openly sobbing. Farewell Mr. Harrison.:(

One of the most gifted musicians and songwriters is gone.

There are not enough of these great people left to just ignore their passing.

As for him being rich, if you have ever heard a Beatles album, you probably would agree that he deserved it.

The truly unfortunate thing is that you CANNOT replace a George Harrison, and that scares me for the future of music.
