bed_09 - Random RaR Deity

I dropped the science slider to 0% every turn to get extra money.
We really should NOT do this as it exploits a bug in the rate cap. DocT can explain it better then me.
The basics are with a rate cap of 70% we should NOT claim more then 70% in taxes. The game will fix this AFTER handing out the tax money. That is why you had to do this every turn. Our government is NOT meant to get 100% tax revenue - period.

Oh. I thought the bug was the reverse, meaning the correction to a minimum tax rate was the mistake, not the ability to drop the tax rate down. Now I am trying to remember where I saw this first, as I am sure it did not come to me on my own.

Well, no more of that from now on.

Pre-Turn
we want high explosives don't we? but we can't afford it
change builds in our big towns to some wonders

we get repeating rifles in 2, stole high explosives safely in 3 to start serious RR. Iros finished ToE to get us realpolitik :D
was building up for war to gain us more labor for RR. we got screwed propellers through encyclopedia
in turn 7 started to attack Polynesia. took houston to gain 4 slaves
quite a number of enemy units showed up as cannon fodder to convert to slaves
keshiks are perfect for doing that job even attacking Cavs. do never upgrade them.

on the final IT we learned modern legal system and marxism
started supreme court ready in Kazan in 4 (from scratch), edisons in 3 in Tatu(we could extort a lot of gold from Tibet if we get 2 free techs)
winter palace is ready in Boston next turn

the killing zone

Looks like you guys will have to skip me again.
I seriously doubt i can play until friday-saturday.
Sorry for being such a party pooper. With all the skips even when i play i don't play well.
If you think SG will improve without me feel free to boot me out.
I will take no offence since it's my and only my fault. :suicide:

Looks good ThERat. I like war. I also like free labor. This is a great combination of the 2. I am glad that we can use keshiks to grab free labor, (well ~67 gold labor, after we upgrade them).
We should continue the war and remove the scourge of polynesia from the planet. (This sounds like LK96. (Where is the doofus smiley when you need one?))

I would have preferred to wait until we had a better railnet, but I will deal the hand I got. I would have been a lot happier with a net from Karakorum to Houston, then what I have.

The call to put Edison in Ta-Tu was wrong IMO as Karakorum will generate more tourism, and be a better science city. I cancel the National Gallery in Almarikh for the same reason. RaR brings back the Civ2 model of the super science city. IMO 100% of the science and revenue boasters should have went there with the stronger tourism money.
(IT) Boston now has the winter palace. I already sent a second defender toward this city to protect this important building.
The Iroquois declare war on Persia.

870 AD
(IT) We have completed Edison's Workshop.
Sanitation and Espionage comes in for free.

880 AD
Our labor force sucks. I don't remember it requiring 20 laborers to rail a single grassland tile. I thought 1.04 had good workers.
(IT) Persia declares war on Tibet.
We have completed the corruption reducing Supreme Court.

890 AD
(IT) Persia and Babylon sign a peace treaty.
Grand War comes in for free.

900 AD
I almost committed some weed, but I finally noticed that Tibet lacks Sanitation and Espionage. I get $6,650 from them for the 2 techs.
(IT) Ethiopia and the Iroquois sign peace.
We get Advanced Metallurgy for free.

910 AD
The AI science priorities suck sometimes. We can build artillery, but we still don't have oil to build them. Do you know why? The AI hasn't even researched Refining.
(IT) Babylon and Polynesia embargo us.
The Iroquois complete Taj Mahal.

920 AD
I was beginning to think our Keshiks forget how to enslave, but I finally got another worker.
(IT) The Iroquois complete Magna Carta. I forget that Constitutional Monarchy had the Supreme Court equivalent.

930 AD
The killing zone nets us another badly needed worker.

950 AD
On my 10th turn I finally complete a railnet between Houston and Karakorum. We still don't have the core connected.

==========================

Summary:
I maintained a limited war with Polynesia waiting for the railnet to get better. Romeo can decide about going offensive. I am not sure how much value the Polynesian cities have, as they would be very awkward to defend when the Iroquois war starts. Our front is long enough vs. the Iroquois without those cities.

I will get to this tonight. I will probably try and raze and not replace. We need workers and a smaller Iro front, and this will serve both Purposes.
Since it sounds like LK got a rudimentary railnet up, I will attempt to get Karakum and then Ta-Tu up to real speed with rails. If our Railnet needs more improving I will also do that.
Did we build the CIA? If not, it is going up in Ta-Tu.

Did we build the CIA?
The CIA is under construction already in the iron works city (Kazan) and will be completed in 2 turns.

If our Railnet needs more improving I will also do that.
It still needs work big time. Several of the captured American cities are still not on the net. I only have 4 of our core cities connected. We still have a long way to go.

Our labor force sucks. I don't remember it requiring 20 laborers to rail a single grassland tile. I thought 1.04 had good workers.
exactly and that's why I started that war, whether being really prepared or not. I knew that's a way to net more slaves. To build the railnet is so slow and the fact that we got pollution at places didn't really help speeding it up.
Sorry for the wonder mix up, that's my weak point in RaR, I openly admit. I am always puzzled which city to chose. What I realise though was, that we have hardly built any science boosters.

I fixed that somewhat. I tried to squeeze in science improvements that only took one turn to build (academy and libraries). At some point GL2 will go away, and we need to be in the position to self-research. I was still pushing mostly production help. We at least have a few cannons to help now.

lurker's comment: The Workers in 1.04 are fine; just the Gov you're in only has 100% Worker speed, and that makes non-natives pretty useless.

And you know what the majority of our labor force is?
I wonder if it is time to talk about a better government?

We have pretty well milked Fuedal Monarchy. I am not sure what the exact timing should be, but I am open to a change to a commerce boosting gov soon. I need some help in that department though. I can't think of what gov we'd want - can't even really think of recent govs that became available.

I have already cast my vote for a federal republic after we have the Crystal Palace.
After all the production enhancers have been built, (I say crystal palace is a natural break) then I would revolt.

do we have the required tech for a change already? By the way, we need to monitor the tech situation since Iro's are running away at the moment. we should take them on sooner rather than later.

IHT: Trade the Ethiopians screw propellor for 2 luxes.
IBT: Persia joins the scrapehap of history.
Turn 1: Ta-Tu starts the Eiffel tower. This is a great wonder in my book. Research to military Tradition. Using laborers to pimp out Ta-Tu. We need culture ATM.
bed9-11.jpg

Turn 2: We get emancipation. Yay. Start selling slave markets. Also sell rax in atlanta.
Turn 3: Iro declare on Ethiopia. We kill some dragoons, get 1 volunteer for our labor force. Get ready to assualt hariki, and find another volunteer.
Turn 4: Open an embassy with the Ethiopians. Plant spy on Polynesia. Sell Ethiopia Iron on the Cheap. Attack hariki, promote our reg cav to veteran. Elite Keshik recruits help at haraki. Raze Hariki, get a total of 10 slaves from that little push all told.
Turn 5: We learn the corporation, start some stock exchanges. Our only incensce gets pillaged
Turn 6: As I kill the fool that pillaged our incense I get a free building card. Boston gets on the railnet. It and Washington will get some work. Karakoum will get the national monument rushed.
bed9-21.jpg

Turn 7: Kill some dragoons, working on the railnet. Get more free labor. I love keshiks.
Turn 8: We get refrig and thermo. Ethiopia gets repeating rifle cheap. Don't see any new good tiles, but Boston gets a floodplain wheat 2.
Turn 9: Kill some more stuff snag another slave. RR'ing and prepping. Universal sufferage is a prebuild for Wall Street in Karakoum.
Turn 10: Ethiopia and Tibet make peace. We start some more buildings, I am finally putting up some science buildings.
We will get refining next turn. I would continue the very heavy infra push. We are doing fine on all fronts. We have the Tech we need for Federal Republic
We are close ~15-20 turns away from being ready to swap governments. Our culture is low at the moment, but it will improve nicely with the Eiffel tower. The Iro will be taken out in due time. The National monumnet will help us war in the new governement, and we will want many artillary peices for the upcoming war.

Don't forget we will be able to upgrade the cannons I build as a starting point.

Got it, but I may end up slowing down the pace a bit. I'll probably have it up right against the 48h limit.

Well, no more of that from now on.

The real problem here is that the AI does stick to that cap.
The maximum for Sci and Lux works properly, you cannot push the slider above the cap; but, for tax (100% - Sci - Lux) you can exceed it.
Also, this is an important issue for Gov balances; you will want a 'modern' gov at some point because of that, regardless of your earlier choice.
