bed_10 - Random, Deity, Standard

bedhead, this game looks tough. thought we finish this before end of april, at least that's what you promised

guess we have to work our way back the hard way...but fighting rifles with ansars ain't fun

Yeah, this is going to be good. But that was te whole idea of taking a completely random start. We didn't even get any huts, as far as I noticed, so we are playing with a so-so start on Deity with only one trait, which has made things interesting. We also got out of the gate a bit more slowly than we should have, due to some errors on our part.

The only thing I feel bad about though is my promise about when we'd finish.

Preturn- We look alright.

T7 520

America is destroyed.

T8 530

On the IT the Aztecs pull a sneak attack. Only one cav attacks. I manage to kill one, with several still visible. I change our tax around to make some money, our survival now depends on beig able to buy in the Byzantines within a turn or two.

T9 540

Aztecs convince Carthage to declare on us. That only helps us. I make an embassy in Constantinople, which is oddly far from the coast. For 31gpt Theodora agrees to hopefully bail us out of this one.

I make some ill adivsed attacks of horses and archers against full strength cavs and actually win several times. I end up with all our cats exposed though, and several cities are still in trouble.

T10 550

We lost Bukhara and Anjar. A rifle was promptly rushed in Bukhara, so retaking it seems like a long shot at the moment. I recaptured our cats, but all of them missed the rifle. I'll leave the rest of the units unmoved for next player to decide what to do.

Summary

Once we manage to get rid of the existing forces in our territory, we should be ok, as the Byzantines will cover us. Until then things could be a bit tricky.

If anyone wants to play this last save to a different outcome, be my guest. I lost 3 cities in the first 5 turns and consider it hopeless. Here's what I did:

550
kill 2 cavalry, lose elite horsemen.

IT:
Byzantine and Iroquois sign MPP.
Carthage lands swordsman on island town.
Aztecs still sending units over
lose 2 horsemen.

560
Veteran Muscat Horseman attacks Carthage Swordsman, dealing 1 damage, taking 3 and retreating. Looks like Muscat is gone.

IT: Our very lucky fortified 1 hp Muscat horsman defeats 2 hp swordsman attacker.
Not so lucky: The treacherous Aztecs and the evil Maya have declared war on us (MA).
Kufah is captured by Cavalry.

570
The war weariness edges up a notch. Lux slider to 40%
kill 3 units with horsemen.

IT:
Iroquios want to trade territory maps. They are gracious towards us :undecide: .

580
kill a longbow.

IT:
Aztecs and Inca sign MA vs. little 'ol us.
Inca declares vs. the Byzantines.
Khurasan goes down swinging...sort've.

590
More war weariness.
Suicide assault launched vs. Bukhara...and fails.
Aztec Cavalry strolls into Mecca.

600
More war weariness.

I could keep playing and losing more cities if you want :( .

It seems the bed series has been dealt its first defeat. I don't have the save so can't comment really, but I imagine if we lost the capital we're pretty much toast. MeteorPunch, if you don't mind playing until the bitter end, go ahead and do so. I am not really a fan of conceding defeat unless it is what the whole team wants.

Looks like Bed 08 stubbornly refused to be the first Bed series loss by slowly and surely outlasting this one. Thats a tough game you lost.

Well, we at least made it to the Industrial age in 08. Oh well. I was looking to drop my SG commitment anyway.

I guess rest of the Aztecs got caught in Byzantine land because there's no more major attacks.

600
horse kills longbow
make a few adjustments

IT:
Carthage and Byzantines sign MA vs. Aztecs.
Carthage and Byzantines sign MA vs. Maya.
oh man. I had Lux @ 50% and science @ 0%, but still making -13 gpt. a worker gets disbanded.

610
I disband almost all our workers to get income to +1 gpt

620
horse kills longbow

650
give aztecs bagdad for peace.
maya give peace for free.
kill a carthage mercenary

our units are too few and too weak to capture cities back from the Riflemen.

This may have been remotely possibly winnable if I hadn't lost Mecca  . It still may be remotely possibly winnable, but I don't know. I think you almost need to get the Great Library in diety+ games. That or an Archiapalego map.

Anyone care to elaborate on some of our mistakes? The reason I lost a couple of those cities was because all the units were in the two southern cities. I didn't have any units in the north, so in hindsight I should've rushed all the city improvements (aquaducts, etc) to swords and horses (which I later did). Even then, 1 sword/horse would've likely fallen to cavalry.

Like someone mentioned before, our Exp trait yielded almost nothing. Sci or Agr would've provided some benefit.

I'll concede the game. At first I wanted to play till the bitter end, but I don't think we have a chance.
