Go up and re-read dutchking's statement. It is clearly him/her stating their opinion against recent "freedom infringing" acts. Many people fear the percieved power the Patriot Act provides to government agencies.

I see nothing wrong with discussing history. I would hope this game would spark someone to care more about history.

No, you can criticize. Their blood spills so you can say and do most anything you like (within the law and your abilities). All I am saying is have the strength of your conviction to say it to their face.

Why does criticism of politics have anything to do with what troops are doing? It is you who needs to justify this jingoistic claptrap rather than anyone else.

Visit the area and get a true picture of the situation. Don't just simply rely on the press to give you your talking points -- regardless of one's liberal or conservative tendencies. I know of veterans who are for the war and some that oppose it.

This is beyond absurd - do you really expect the vast majority of a country to just up and visit a war zone so they can read past the media bias? :crazyeye:

Do I also need to go to space to see how astronaughts feel? Or can I safely use the LONG ACCEPTED mode of human experiential sharing "the written word" to empathise and understand.

I simply didn't want this thread to turn into a political mud-sling fest. Like I said, it started out funny. Then someone had to get all personal and attack Bush. You don't have to like the man. You can even think he is an idiot. It's your opinion. But, you should find the correct forums to express those thoughts -- not here.

Sorry JungleBoot - no disrespect but it is only you who has brought nothing humourous to this thread. It was a silly, non-offensive thread until you started casting aspersions on people. The guy didnt attack Bush at all, he made a comment that barely even scraped the surface.

Further, if you didn't like the thread, why did you a) post in it and b) hijack it?

However, I do agree that this is not the place for political mudslinging (which wasn't here prior to your posting).... so why don't we all get back to the silly statements that were here before which were loosely connected with using civ mechanics as a reference for RL situations.

???? Excuse me, but the US army isnt butchering people in Iraq and Afghanistan for me... you may percieve the entire western world to be on your side and you might imagine the soldiers do it all for the benefit of us, but the US army is nothing to do with me. Their blood spills to keep rich men rich, and to make sure poor people stay poor. theyve been tricked into fighting, but they arent fighting for me... Tell me what freedoms I wouldnt have here in Ireland if Saddam was still in power?

/thunderous applause

As I already said, this is all for one of the most important resources on CIV4!
Is it for something else I am not aware of? Maybe a domination victory?? I gotta say that 10 years ago they were nearer of it than now :p

How can I? I'm not from Ireland and wouldn't assume to know the political or cultural climate there. But if I believed everthing I've ever seen in movies and print, you Irish get drunk a lot, blow things up, and generally play rough football (excuse me: soccer). :D

Yeah true... now they have a resurgent Russia and China to contend with. and if the SCO does beocme a military alliance, they could have serious difficulties... Spearthrower, ayethangyew

Drunk: Sadly, this stereotype is completely true, I think we have the third biggent alcohol consumption on earth, Luxembourg is ahead of us, but as its per person, that could hyst mean one guy there is an alcho

Blow stuff up: not any more, were way down that particular league table these days

Football: We play, but badly. although we did beat Denmark 4-0 the other night:)

I assume he meant Gaelic Football, which incidentally dates back to 1308

And for the record.... Foot ball is a game where the ball is moved around with your feet... and the ball is.... amazingly.... ball shaped!

A game where you run around carrying a lemon shaped object can hardly try to claim the right to the name!

I do hereby officially, once and for all, rename American Football......

Carry Lemon!

:D

I think the problem of the American Tribe is, that they already have won the cultural victory and then pressed the button "just one more turn...!" so the game was not ended, and now everything is a mess ;)

I used to know the Hurling Champion.... he was known as the Chunder King.......

*that one might miss a few people!*

geez, you knew what I meant. What is the proper spelling anyway? Futbol?

In Brazil we call Futebol! Should be official, as we own that game :P

America should end the Iraq war, build up a huge stack of tanks outside their borders and attack again ten turns later! They might be able to get a tech for peace. Perhaps 'Superconductor' or 'Laser' or maybe 'Proper Sports that the Rest of the World Plays Instead of Making Up Your Own Sport in Which the Participants Mince Around in Armour Plating like Nancies'.

:p

It is english:) Ricardo Luiz Pozzi:goodjob:

About war:By dropping Blood since the times began until 1974,we understood at last war is no solution.Although we respect always soldiers and rarely criticise them.

I know it is English, that is why I said it should be official! ;)
