Hi Everyone,

I have been playing for over a year and I just won my first deity game as Russia - culture and probably one of the easiest ways to win.

Anyway, two minor things irritate me and I wondered if there was something I was missing or whether I just have to live with them.

1) Moving great works seems to work fine except that if something is outside of the popup screen them I can't reach it. This is really annoying and normally I end up swapping things to something closer and then to the intended destination city. However, in my current game I can't move three artifacts to the city I want as there is no arch. museum that I can use to move it. Am I missing something? Can you select and scroll?

2) Is there any way of choosing which tile a city next expands to. I am sick of seeing the program choosing a useless mountain square when I want the excellent resource tile instead!

Ideas?

Thanks!

IIRC under options - interface, there is an option to change your mouse control from hold-to-drag to click-and-drop. You can select and scroll after that.

That would make things MUCH easier - thanks, I will try it tonight.

The tile growth selection will not hit the third ring until all (mountains included) second ring tiles are owned.

That's what I feared. Huge missed opportunity because being able to choose would add a new level of city management and more depth to the game. Thanks Xaiviax

The only way you can choose is to purchase the tile outright. I too wish the decisions were more organic rather than second-ring/third-ring.

Isn’t that the entire point of the mechanic? Culture is free tile acquisition, but you have no control where you expand to (although you’re generally told where you will expand to). Gold gives you faster acquisition and you can choose where, but it costs ... er, gold, although you can discount the gold cost with policy cards. Seems a good system to me.

But sometimes the choice within second ring is not what I would like. I imagine the game is programmed to choose tiles with resources and high yields but sometimes I'd rather it chose a wood or jungle so I can chop it, or a different resource first. Now, I don't want to be choosing every time my city grows but the ability to mark a tile for next growth would be good.

That’s my point. If you want to choose the tile you expand to, you have to buy it with gold. If you could choose with culture, then gold acquisition (and gold itself, and the related policy cards) would be less valuable.

If you don’t like that design, then fair enough. But I think the difference between cultural and gold tile acquisition leads to more interesting choices and trade-offs.

If you don't have problems using mods, I DEFINITELY recommend this one:

You can order the slots by type, which is extremely helpful. I don't know why Firaxis never did this, as it's the most comfortable and intuitive way of using the interface.

That looks like a wonderful mod. I have no idea why Firaxis would not have incorporated that one. An easy UI improvement.
Maybe they can do that after they bugger around with their vampires ;)
