BERT Release Time?

No key from GMG yet here either. Iirc, I didn't get my key for BE until day before or day of from GMG, so I'd guess this will be the same.

I noticed that the BERT DLC is still showing "uninstalled" as of 10:10 PM PST today, so I did a re-start of Steam but no change. Wonder when they will pre-load the BERT DLC, since I suspect it will be a hefty package? Perhaps tomorrow afternoon, so it can go live at 12:01 AM 10/9 EST, which will be 9:01 PM 10/8 PST?

Yes, I checked as well and it still has it as uninstalled. It's not clear if it will preload but I haven't noticed anything downloading from steam recently so I suspect not unless this will happen through the day today.

Just got a response via the official Civilization Twitter account:
"The game should be available in all territories by 12:01am Eastern Time on October 9."

So Firaxis still doing this stuff? Most other midnight released games are released at midnight of each country. At least nowadays, wasn't like this before. But firaxis keeps making rest of the world wait for US times.

I think it's more a steam thing than something Firaxis is doing.

I thought about it, but almost every game I buy is on steam, and lately almost all games I buy get an EU time release.
Don't remember a game exactly to make an example tho, I buy too many ^^

But lets make an example. Imagine a big company trying to release a very expected game, lets say Fallout 4, and you think steam will tell them: "no, I will activate it at X time in this countries", instead of doing it when Bethesda wants to?
I would say the company who releases the game can tell steam their plans on release calendar.

The problem is that if they released at midnight everywhere, people in Australia would basically be able to play one full day before people in California, and I bet that would make the latter quite unhappy! :D

Time zones are the bane of my existence as an Australian. I spend 14 hours contemplating fate as the release time has technically already occurred but I cannot play the long-awaited game.

Generally if companies do local-midnight launches, ours are the next night over I do believe, because no-one loves us. :(

Nah, people love you! It's just that your leaders hate video games and internet/gaming technology in general so much that if we express that love we go home with two black eyes and a chipped tooth.

I couldn't agree more. I'm also in Australia and hate the additional wait!

Got my GMG key too. DLC appears in BE s DLC tab. No DL started.

Tried a japan VPN as it's midnight there, no Download started either.

I just got my Steam key from GameAgent (Mac).

Erm, wait, what? Is that not 5 hours too long or am I misreading something?

It is. That was presumably set in advance based on either the creators location or guesstimating of release time, prior to the announcement of a 12:01 a.m. eastern time release (which is currently slightly longer than 8 and a half hours from now).

There's two time releases. An earlier one for Asia and Europe (and presumably Australia) that Pete mentioned in today's livestream, I didn't catch the time for that. The second phase of release for North and South America is 12am Pacific time.
