In your opinion, which AI civs are the best to play against and will make a fun and explosive game? What is your favourite combo of AI civs?

I like to include a few warmongers like Rome or Germany who love to extort you, some cultural civs like Babylon to put some pressure on your growth and some civs like Britain which will give you a fair dosage of naval battle.

I've never tried to optimize my AI opponents for strength, for I'm still at the point where I need to get some pushover AIs to win a pangea monarch.

But the AIs that I dread seeing when I set up a 16 player, random map are:
The Iroquois, they ALWAYS seem to do well, to expand, and to take over their neighbors.

The Bablyonians are always running away with culture and technology unless I cripple them early.

The Zulu always start a very early war with me whenever I play, but they tend to burn out after they annoy every AI in the game and we gang up to destroy them.

The Inca, like the Iroquois, tend to start off strong and to keep that advantage as they devour their neighbors.

There are some others, but those are the four that I always dread fighting. If you want an explosive game, include them.

Expansionist Civs usually starts strong (far ahead in techs) but their power wanes off (unless they're also Militaristic; Zulus and Mongols always seem to do very well throughout in my games) so they can be bullied for those techs later on... :crazyeye:

Religious and Scientific Civs always becomes Culture monsters... And I HATE Agricultural Civs. They start powerful and stay powerful. Sumeria is always a major pain...

Seafaring AIs are often weak since they don't know how to utilize SEA appropriately... So I guess I find Industrious, Commercial and Seafaring Civs easiest to deal with, and Expansionist and Militaristic Civs are most fun to play against...

Me too.I play always with a total of 8 civs on a large map.
And in most games (90%-100%) I end up fighting one of
the Agricultural civs. Most fun is a game without them or
when they don't have fresh water/rivers.

I always seem to have problems with China. I usually make an alliance with 2 AI's to destroy them.

I have problems with Persia, the zulu and the Celts. I think the ai does a good job with them, they never seem to be weak. Beyond those, I dont really see any consistancy except for France who will usually finish strong in my games if I leave them around.

Fastest tech pace:

Sumeria
Russia
Korea
Greece
Ottomans
Persians
Byzantines

Easiest:

Zululand
Babylon
Arabia
Russia
Japan
America
Someone

That's what I used for my loaded Sid game.

In a standard map: Russia, Greece, Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Zululand, Aztecs
playing with Rome or France
and going for world domination.

well in my last game i destroyed 5 cive before 550bc with the iroquois mounted warriors and have a huge continent to myself, i did this with rome too and persia i like too.

I fear the Aztecs, in every game I got them in they become some sort of superpower.
And Rome, I try be nice with them, but they annoy me so I have to destroy them most of the times... :)

And Germany is always behind in techs, and I dont sell any techs to them because all they give back is....crap....

Im playing on warlord.

Well, I like a challenge (or more accurately, I need to move up a level, but I'm too lazy), hence I play with them all pretty powerful. Usually the roster will include several of the following:

Celts
Persia
Greece
Egypt
Sumeria
Ottomans
China
Maya

Then to have a few to beat up on:

Zulu
Rome
Portugal
etc.

All of those usally consitute my usual lineup, with a few different ones thrown in occasionally for cultural variety.

Try England in that last slot. For some reason, the English AI always seems to be worse than other civs, but England produces so much gold as Com/Sea that it usually has a faster tech pace than Persia and the Ottomans despite not being Scientific.
