Best Band Ever?

As jonatas said, there's this guy called Chuck Berry. There's also this other guy called Little Richard. Then there's also this whole music genre called "The Blues". Then there's another whole musical movement called "Gospel", which led onto yet another called "Rhythm and Blues". Elvis didn't start shi*, my friend.

Simple fact of the matter is, and it's a bit of an ugly truth which still gets overlooked today: White people have a some bizarre problem listening to non-white artists, or giving them their dues.
Go take a look at some of Simon Darkshades choices in the 'what I am listening to' threads. Highlights include Nazi skinheads Skrewdriver and self-explanotary named Children Of the Reich.

That has to be the only time anyone has ever acused Tool of being emo. Tool is nowhere near emo. Listen to Tool, then listento Fall Out Boy. Not even similar. Learn music, sir.
Fall Out boy is no where Near Emo either. Emo is so varried that the term Emo is stupid. Listen to Dashboard Confessionals and then listen to takeing Back Sunday, both considered Emo, both very different. When it comes down to it Every type of music is Emotional in some freaking way. So calling one genre Emotional is just stupid.

My rant for the day

Well, at least in the UK, emo has become a name for a certain style of dress and a certain grouping which listen to bands varying from fall Out Boy to Funeral For A Friend. Rather than a musical style it now applies to anyone that fits the sterotype.

lol just what do you think emo's are?
Emos are:
The 21th century internet subculture of highschoolers who are mistreated by their classmates becuase of the music they listen too, which is normally dark and depressing. This music is called Emo, which is why they are called emos. Emo is short for Emotionally hardcore which got its name from the punk rock scene in DC durring the early 90's. Emo guysd have long dark hair and where cloths taht are to small. They are known for even wearing girls pants. Emo girls have short died hair and dress like guys. Most Emos have multiple peircings, write poetry, and play guitar.

That is what I am the Future considers "Emo"

that is what it has turned into in the US also. But most Emo kids would be embaresed to say they listen to fall Out Boy because of their Pop level. Emo is all about not being what every one else expects you to be.

For me, the reason that the beatles are one of the greatest rock bands ever is that they pioneered (and correct me if I'm wrong..) he singer/songwrite, self aware rock musician. Rather than have other write thier songs or just cover old blues tunes, they wrote thier own material, used thier own influences, and wrote about things that mattered to them. McCartney has said countless times in interviews that they were ripoff artists, stealing styles from Dylan, the beach boys, etc to freshen thier style, but they always made it thier own. TO me, the beatles were the ones that made it possible for pop singer to be artists, instead of just performers.

I will admit they owe a huge debt to motown, chuck berry, and countless other along the way, but to me, they will alwyas be a pivitol point in pop music.
Two words: Stevie Wonder.

For all of you chatting about influence, i wasnt asking that, go ahead it can be one of your reasons, just simply what in your opinion was the best musical band/soloist/whatever, could even be celine dion if you liked bad music or something :)
You expect us to just post up the band names and not thrash it out?!

Davo: Anyone who has to harp on about their evilness leaves me wondering what they are missing out on in life.

Oh and I'm gonna go for The JBs, cos they were the funkiest mofos that ever walked the planet, as a band that is.

nevermore is damn good, but not the best ;)

Maroon Town - ska
Bob Marley - reggea
Iron Maiden - metal
CCR - southern rock
KRS1 - rap
Wolf tones - Irish folk
Minor Threat - hard core
Sex Pistols - punk

My vote goes to Fela Kuti and the Africa 70 band, who I discovered indirectly through a CFC member who shall remain nameless :D

I'm pretty hard to impress, but I got a couple of their cd's for Christmas and I've been blown away by how raw and pure the music is, and its energy. I'm really speechless. It's like the best music I ever heard

Five Iron Frenzy is the greatest ska band, or any band for that matter.

Punk rock with horns is NOT ska.

I havent heard of either of those ska bands

i think the specials and the slackers are the two best ska bands meself

well its good to see we all ahve such varied tastes in music. I like the Beatles. I think they did alot for music today. Yes they were just copying everyone else trying to make a buck. Elvis, he stole many many a song from " black" song writers back then. ANd well I persoanlly think that gospel music is one of the key music forms that founded music as we know it. Now i mknow im gonna get ripped on for this but its true. Gospel had a direct influence on Jazz, and on Country and western ( my fav) and in turn they had influence on Rock and roll. actually if it hadnt been for Jazz, there wouldnt be Rock and roll. Now friends of mine say that differently, they say and I quote " If it had been for the white man stealing the music us black me wrote, cracker never woulda had music." I agree. I am NOT rascist so please dont take the language I used in a negative way. Jazz and Gospel I think are the founding fathers of music.....Personally, Johgn lee Hooker was my fav jazz artist. ANd i like the beatles. Lennon/Mccartney sure could write.

But i also cant stand alot of this pop music krap thats been a product of ppl like Bratney Spears and Backstreet boys etc etc etc.
But thats my .02

Green Day or Fallout Boy

It's the Beatles. They win.
