What is the hardest game you've ever seen beaten? I would like to read about it in stories and tales, if you can link.

Yeah, yeah, so all the greats can beat Sid with their eyes closed. But how about a 3-billion year Sid pangea, starting next to the Persians and the Iroquois with a starting spot by jungly mountains!

Now there's a story I'd like to read! Could even Moonsinger or SirPleb :hammer: that?

You should probably read Bamspeedy's Beyind Sid if that's the insanety you're looking for.
Will try to find the thread...
edit: found it
link

I would not classify them as the "best game ever", but have you read my "Catch the Runaway AI" or war academy thread (links in my sig)?

I think there are many more qualified than I but not many take hours to write it all down.

What took you so long tR1cKy? 135 seconds between my thought "tR1cKy will post here" and you actually doing it. :D Nice writeup!

Uh uh... i was just wandering around and saw the post... couldn't resist the urge
:D

There's another one that could be interesting, it's a game played on deity level as the Vikings. The gamer had only space for founding 4 cities, then went conquering the whole world... too bad i don't remember the poster name :(

I really, really liked reading Zerksees' comeback too.
and here are some of my other faves....

A Classic SG...great players that can tell a great story too...

Mag 7+1

Awesome pictures and great writer who builds his characters....

World War I.....in 2051

A Sid always war game with a twist....

For my 6th grade sense of humor

Another good source of interesting stuff is Tomoyo's index of legendary games. It's the 1st (stickyed) thread on the "Stories and Tales" section.

both those games deserve a spot in the archive of legendary games. trickys ugly start deserves it too. one question, tricky, was that PTW or C3C deity?

None of the above, it was vanilla deity :D
The game was modded to fit my personal taste for game balance, but the difficulty level stuff was left unchanged. The significant changes met in the game were: aztecs' jaguar warriors were 3.2.2 and replacing swordsmen; knights were 4.2.2 and costing 60; muskets had stats unchanged but costing 50; cavalries were 6.4.3 and costing 90; riflemen untouched but costing 70.

EDIT: this is the Viking game i was referring to a few posts above:
Vikings III (deity) by Sandman2003
a brilliant conquest victory, starting from the edge of a peninsula with only 4 cities built.

My best game ever was an RaR Sid cultural win. It only took me six tries to win RaR Sid.

Come on, you guys have to remind me! I don't update it without pokes...

Yeah, I've checked out the Legendary Games thread. Winning on Sid is a crazy accomplishment in the first place (something of which I'm incapable), but I'm not interested in games in which the player starts out on a sizeable island, by themself. It seems to me that in that case a good player will rarely lose, because the AI is so bad with naval wars. No, it seems to me that a Deity pangaea will almost always be a lot more difficult than Sid archipelago.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I'll definitely check out Tr1cky's game and the Vikings beatdown.

Here's to :hammer: the AI, regardless of its advantages.
