Ok I took the liberty of choosing which bands to put on the list. Heavy Metal is not a standarnized expression, so I don't care about such comments as: "but Metallica and Black Sabbath aren't heavy metal bands"

If you're band is not there you can vote other.

I used http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Best_selling_music_artists for inspiration.

BTW sorry, but there is only 20 poll options, I can never include them all. I had to choose.

Oh I should probably have made it a public poll, and crap I just discovered that I don't have Dio included. Ohwell, you can't win every time..

Two of my favourite bands are right next to each other...
Which ones?

Iron Maiden, closely followed by Judas Priest and Helloween

Tough question but I'd have to go with Iron Maiden followed closely by Metallica, AC/DC, Dream Theater and Judas Priest.

My favorite is Metallica. "Best" when talking music is not a good term to use, because there is not way to judge it objectively.
"Favorite" would have been much better.

At the moment I think I'd have to say Cephalic Carnage.

Death metal, doom, stoner, grindcore... they do it all with equally great skill & inventiveness and are more than capable of pulling a sudden, surprise, sing-a-long chorus out of nowhere should they so please. Not that they often choose to do so, mind you.

Voted for Slayer, though my true favourties are Death and Immortal. These two bands, along with Slayer, though, are masters of catchy riffing and creating complex soundscapes (You can almost imagine the lepers [Death] or the frostbitten grim northern mountains of eternal darkness [Immortal]).

Megadeth, followed by Iron Maiden.
