Best Heavy Metal band

Props to Priest and Maiden though, both were my favorites prior to me discovering Reign In Blood way back in the day.

Just like to say that kiss, nightwish, dream theatre, limp bizkit and linkin park arent heavy metal.
As for my favourite it would be Iron maiden. Second best band of all time! (after GnR of course).

Though they are quite more "opera/symphonic" metal, and it's REALLY hard to see them lumped together with Pantera or other loud-noise-producers.

I have seen them twice, and i've been to many gigs, and they were by far the best. Plus their albums are great.

Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple can be considered metal but I really don't think they fit in. They're a bit too early.

Led arent heavy metal, not even close for most parts of there songs. Ive seen rammstein live, and they are probably the best live band ive ever scene, but listening to there Cd just isnt as good.

I don't know what to vote - of the bands listed here I would say either Iced Earth, System of a Down, or Rammstein are the best. Of all the Metal (and Metal-like music) I know, Opeth takes the title hands-down.
[nitpick]I wonder if "Heavy Metal" here is supposed to denote Metal in general, or Heavy Metal as differentiated from Gothic Metal, Power Metal and Death Metal (for example) in the specific style of Metal played.
Either way, many bands here don't really fit the description. The list seems to just be a list of heavy bands regardless of what kind of heavy music they play.[/nitpick]
