Well, crowns are not a common sign in all the cultures, for example that funny thing Hatse is wearing is pretty much an Egyptian equivalent of a crown.

Just so. Egyptian crowns got even fancier -- rulers of the unified "double kingdom" wore the tall white crown for the Upper Kingdom combined with the low red crown of the Lower Kingdom.
