Best RPG games?

I wouldn't say IWD was crap. Sure, it was no BG, but then very very little is, and it was still a fun game. The sequel was bad though....

And seeing as you mentioned NWN, well, yeah, that was crap. Some great mods around for it, but the official campaign was awful.

Oh so is the original better?
I only tried the sequel and it was so boring... the fights were boring, the characters boring. The storyline boring...

i suppose fable isn't that bad. When I first got I was so pissed off. There was a perception that FABLE would be the new morrowind.
Morrowwind... now those were the days, when I was like 12-14 :) It was magical, oh have hurt my heart :( Because I can't play it anymore because I lack the patience, and I practically did everything... Ohh my heart!!!!

Morrowind...now that was a boring game. Sure you could do anything, but none of it was actually fun...

I'll second that, Phrox. Besides, it was so lonely...

you have to have played Vampire: Bloodlines at least once.

Seconded big time. Possibly my favorite game ever.

Another good suggestion would be Deus Ex. And if we're talking RPGs of any origin and platform, the Final Fantasy series parts 7 and 8 are obligatory playing for RPG fans too.

is this game only for goths?

the Final Fantasy series parts 7 and 8 are obligatory playing for JAPANESE RPG fans too.

Fixed. Fans of western RPGs won't necessarily like Final Fantasy.

Do americans live in MacDonalds?

None of the three games mentioned in his post are only for Goths.

Since nobody has mentioned it (really?):

Planescape: Torment

From the Baldur's Gate era (and the mechanics are very similar), but still quite possibly the best game ever made. The story and the writing in particular are just amazing. Hard to find copies now though, I gather.

Seconding Vampire: the Masquerade. A really good package all-round and lots of fun.

As for Icewind Dale, I thought it was pretty fun. Kind of like Baldur's Gate with everything but the hack n' slash taken out; if you don't go in expecting more than that, it does its hacky-slashy thing pretty well, I think. Also the landscapes are beautiful.

And in a more Japanese-style RPG vein - Barkley, Shut Up And Jam: Gaiden is one of the best RPGs of the last few years. Plus it's free!

So I'm thinking of a Sith Lords AAR but it doesn't seem to have a screenshot folder which is...inconvenient to say the least, I cant exactly switch between the game and MS paint all the time. Any suggestions?

FRAPS would probably be best, I use X-Fire as it involves free hosting ^_^

But photobucket works well too, especially if you want to resize the pictures (or you can set the max file size as a megabyte or whatever it is).

photobucket... just from all the "exceeded bandwidth, upgrade to pro" thumbnails I've seen, EWW. Use imageshack or tinypic :/

M&B qualifies for RPG I think :D it is epic awesome.

I've yet to run out of bandwidth or space on photobucket, and UGh I HATE imageshack, their thumbnails don't work half the time, their site has a pop up, ads on the pictures and if you click on the picture it takes you to their site.

One of the Half Life 2's had really memorable episodes with RPGs/rocket launchers. Other games either have them used too mundanely or too unimpressively to be notable.

Paranoia, arguably the best single player Half Life mod ever (albeit short), has exactly one RPG fight and it was sorta disappointing because I wanted more. :(

I'm trying to figure out whether your're serious or not.
