NPD Group recently released PC game sales data for October 2006. Civilization IV is still selling pretty well, even though it came out a year ago. On the top 20 list below, Civilization IV is at #14.

  3. Battlefield 2142 (Electronic Arts)
  4. Warhammer 40,000: Dawn Of War -- Dark Crusade (THQ)
  5. Flight Simulator X Deluxe (Microsoft)
  6. The Sims 2 Glamour Life Stuff (Electronic Arts)
  7. Company of Heroes (THQ)
  8. Paws & Claws: Pet Vet (Valusoft)
  9. The Sims 2 (Electronic Arts)
  10. Flight Simulator X (Microsoft)
  11. Guild Wars Nightfall (NCsoft)
  12. Seaworld Adventure Parks Tycoon 2 (Activision)
  13. Desperate Housewives (Buena Vista Games)
  14. Civilization IV (2K Games)
  15. Age Of Empires III: WarChiefs (Microsoft)
  16. Guild Wars Nightfall: Collector's Edition (NCsoft)
  17. Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy (LucasArts)
  18. Age Of Empires III (Microsoft)
  19. SimCity 4 Deluxe (Electronic Arts)
  20. The Sims 2 Nightlife (Electronic Arts)
NPD Group also released the 10 best selling PC games for the week November 12-18, but Civ4 is not on the list.

Ouch, how does it feel to know that you have been outsold by a Desperate Housewives game? :p

And where is the new Warlords ???

Oh I think its ok. Civ4 is one of those games that half the potential buyers pick up on its first week of release. To see it still spreading around the world after this long is a proud acheivment. IMO Other games might take a while to get noticed in the net community and by new distributers so they have a chance at a longer/stronger second wind then Proven lagacys would-

I have no expierence in retail of games but Im smart enough to no Warcraft is truly incredible for how it keeps on coming up with so many new buys-- after record sales on release day.

World of warcraft is still going strong, those blizzard people must be rolling in money. (im off to play wow)

I have been wondering that do the World of Warcraft sell figures include also the selling of the playing time ? If that is the case, I think that the statistics are not fair, because I think that only selling the game itself should be included (in order to be comparable with other kind of games).

There's actually a Desperate Houswives game? :crazyeye:

How could CIV lose to Desperate Housewives?

Must be a lot of lonely housewives sitting at home playing computer games.
Hence the Sims success ;)

I have been wondering about this too. But, if you think about it, it doesn't matter: They are still making sales from the game, so in that sense and the fact that they're selling it in (brick) retail stores, says that it should still be classed as legitimate sales. But yeah, if it also includes playing time, then it is a little misleading. Note though that I have no idea of whether other games like WoW also sell playing time in retail stores.

I notice Civ Chronicles is no where on the chart not even the bottom.

It has Civ3 COMPLETE and for the first time on windows, Civ2 but heres the big thing, It also has Civ4 . Throw in a card game and you got to be wondering why no one was buying this great offer.

Mybe now it makes more sence to have included a 3.5 version(improved BIC) to the biggest seller in the whole package, Civ3 ;) .

Does anyone now where it fits on the charts?

Great to see Civ IV up there...but how in the heck are games like:

Seaworld Adventure Parks Tycoon 2 (Activision)
Desperate Housewives (Buena Vista Games)

...even on the list! This makes me doubt the credability and sanity of the list.

I look at the top two thirds of that list and shudder.
