Civ ONE is superior to Civ V?

Civ3 is superior to Civ V?

Fixed. :) :) :)

I didn't play Civ1 but I imagine you have to put yourself back in the early 1990s and remember what I felt like playing that game. Probably a greater feeling than any subsequent versions since it was new and revolutionary. I felt the same way about the original SimCity. That was the game that got me into PC gaming and I can't say that about any other game.

Civ II - the start of the Addiction. I still have my Civ II Test of Time CD ;)

I played every PC-released Civ game, and (excluding Civ5) they always had a certain magic around them which made me hold them in high regard. However, no Civ game captured me as much as Civ4. It was almost too good to be true, the devs had tailored a game that almost perfectly met my preferences, as if they had read my mind.

Easily Civ4. Regrowing choppable trees, growing-over-time cottages, religion and deep diplomacy, civics system, maintenance depending on the distance from capital, beautiful yet clear interface, health - I'd say it introduced unparalelled standard to empire building games.

Civ2 and 3 were awesome too, but Civ4 was simply mindblowing :king:

I think I'll say Civ4, although I liked Civ3 a lot at the time. I think the corruption/waste system of Civ3 knocks it below Civ4 though. I don't remember much about Civ2 since I haven't played it in 15 years.

I'd like to write-in SMAC -- Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri as #1
It was a true sequel to Civ II and inspired most of the new features in Civ III and IV.

It is the last of the Civ series that Sid actually gets credit as the designer (with Brian Reynolds).
This is the turn based game where Sid peaked in creativity after learning all the lessons from I and II.

Sadly SMAC needs an update as it is 10+ years old, but intellectual property BS keeps us from getting SMAC II.

Civ1 hands down, allthough I've played every single one of em, this is the one that started it all. Alot of my childhood friendships got forged over civilization, and i spent countless hours on my friends amigas playing it untill the glorious day when i got it for my own computer. I've probably spend more time on Civ4 but Civilization will allways to me be the weird settler which looked like a giant evil head, and the weird man-like figure with a stick.

SMAC was mainly the brainchild of Brian Reynolds though. Didn't Sid himself say at some point that Brian was working on the game sitting in the UK, sending over parts when they were finished, and he'd then comment on them?

There's also the theory that the initial backlash against him from the fans was one of the reasons why Reynolds left Firaxis (after doing most of the work, he was blamed by many fans for all of the "bad" things in SMAC, while all of the good things were attributed to Meier).

It's speculation of course, but I think Sid Meier's actual creative input in SMAC was too small to consider it his "peak". I think he reached his peak with Civ1, and then slowly started to grow out of touch with the people who liked his games.

Civ 2 or Civ 4, that’s the question, they are both great games. Finally I voted for Civ 2, the first game in the series I played and I was fascinated by the complexity.

I hate CIV5, is a bad game(really bad), i was waiting something better........
CIV4 BTS Rise of Mankind BEST CIV EVER!!!!!! (I add the mod cuz rise of mankind its a very good mod, better graphic, better wonders, better research, ALL IS BETTER)
THANX TO ALL RoM Team!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for stupid question...
What is Vanilla? lol

To be fair, Civ5 vanilla isn't complete yet. It's getting at least one free DLC and presumably more patches are on the way.

But whatever the case, I think it'd be one of civ5 or civ4. Civ1 in a nostalgic sense... and civ2 I enjoyed immensely at the time. Ci3 was so-so, but civ4 hooked me like never had been done. As I said, civ5 so far is basically unfinished, so it's hard to judge it.

I hope u are right.....

Civ II

People who didn't vote Civ II should buy the Civilization collection box and play Civ II. Then they should come back here and change their vote. :scan:

Who voted for CiV? Clearly you haven't play any others

I've played every game/expansion except for Civ 1. I like a lot about V, its potential and the direction I feel they're trying to go with the series. With proper patching and mods I think it will be superior to all others. But even right now, I find it much more enjoyable that the other games were at release.

Try not to forget that these are opinions being expressed and it's ok for people to have one that's different than yours. I don't care much for most seafood, but I don't think there's something wrong with someone who prefers Haddock over a juicy Steak!

I know they're not technically part of the series, but I recommend putting CTP 1 and 2 on the poll. They were my favorites in a lot of ways.

This.

Now. Lets all go and play some Civilization II!
This is not an request, but an order! :whipped: [civ2]

I voted civ 3.

Why? One reason is that it introduced me to the series. The other is that I weren't good enough to care about balance when it was released. But the most important part is that it had the best graphics.

No, seriously. Good graphics is not the same as advanced graphics. Civ 3 was much better in the art department than civ 4, and miles ahead of civ 5.
