Depends what features and techniques you're trying to edit into your film/programme/video.

It also depends on what format your footage is on. What format are they in?

I've only tried MovieMaker and Pinnacle Studio (version 8 I think), and of those two, definitely Pinnacle. Easy to capture, edit and compile the movie (to DVDs or a fileformat of your choice). Now, I haven't edited many movies, so this is just an amateurs response...

I have only used the Macintosh one, iMovies, or something like that, and it works fine with me. I cannot compare with other cos i haven't used them.

I bought a supercool digital video camera when I went to Hawaii and I made a couple of DVDs with it already.

BTW, Does this thread belong to computer talk?

Best Video Editing Software (not in order) are:
Avid
Final Cut Pro (Mac Only)
Incite E3
Premiere Pro

Having said all this, I think any sofware is good as long as you can cut and dissolve. It's the footage that really matters innit!

PS I am an editor (amongst other things)

Final cut pro is the best ! ...... that is what I learned on and Adobe Premiere is good too !

BTW I think final cut pro is now available for PC (i might be wrong too!)

Avid, Final Cut Pro and Premiere are all very good and do basically the same things with slight variations

If you don't want professional software, between iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, iMovie is much better.

Adobe Premiere is nice, and goes nicely with Adobe Encore and other from the Adobe family. Pinnacle is not bad either, but is not a tool of choice for serious editors. As far as I know.
I don't like Avid, never tried Final Cut.

I've only ever used Windows Movie Maker, and that was to put a 10 second song onto my movie of me killing someone in World of Warcraft. So I voted SHUT UP!!! |>.<|
