Ok,I know everyone is probably going to choose Hoover Dam over the rest.Just tell us why you love it.Oh,if you chose Hoover don't even bother :)

After a few D+n succession games with Andu where large AI's were able to survive into modern times, I have newfound respect for the UN and the power of the Emissary's ploy to sustain war in Democracy. This is especially true now that DoM has discovered the role the Partisan can play in this technique.

Hoover can be extremely powerful but based on the way you phrased it, I treated this as "best modern wonder other than Hoover." Even so, I consider Hoover somewhat overrated because by the time I reach the modern era in a large-scale game, production capability takes a back seat to economic power. I really don't make building Factories a priority. With a strong Democracy economy delivering high volumes of freight every turn, nearly all production can be rush-bought, significantly reducing the importance of shield prodcution.

(As a frequent OCC'er I probably should have picked Apollo, but that just seemed too boring)

Sorry for apearing daft... but what does OCC stand for? (Other than Orange County Choppers :) )

OCC stands for One City Challenge

Thanks! Does this *really* mean what it says?
I mean: is it *really* possible to win by "Spaceship" and *only* buillding/owning a *single* city?

Mine is the Hoover Dam! You are amazing.

Just to keep it interesting my second favourite is SETI. I love double science.

I voted for Hoover out of habit, but, except for the Manhatten Project, which is worthless, and maybe the Apollo Program, all of the modern wonders are important. Each one contributes to running a smooth democracy at Diety level. If I could only have one of them, I would have to flip a coin between Hoover and the UN. I like to build big civs, and with over 150 cities, I need some shield production from factories and Hoover sure helps here. On the other hand, the UN is vital to keep tabs on the other civs and avoid the unwanted war.

i always try to build hoover for production and also u avoid to buil power plants and water power plants. ofcourse for me production is to make big fast wars :)

Yes and if you're lucky enough to be ahead in the tech race

I voted for Hoover, too. I have actually quit many a game after building this Wonder because it amplifies the power in power democracy so much that little remains but moving pieces around. That being said, a good argument can be made of the UN, both for keeping your civ at peace and at war, depending on your preference!

Most certainly, and OCC is a good "training discipline" to help you learn to focus on the critical aspects of a spaceship-victory game. OCC is primarily a tech&build game, not a warfare game, so you need to practice the diplomatic arts of pacifism and appeasement. At the same time, though, you can turn AI civs into tech and gold slaves via alliances, and if you are playing the Classic version it becomes an art to launch your spaceship and keep all your allies Enthusiastic. Depending on the difficulty level you may find a "wonder crunch" around AD1 that is an exciting nail-biter, because you absolutely have to have Colossus, Copernicus and Shakes and at least half of the AIs will be working on them at the same time. And the final benefit of OCC is that it can be played very fast: if you are not a micro-manager or trying to beat TimTheEnchanter in a GOTM you can often play an OCC in one evening session, once you get the basics of tech paths, critical wonders and diplomacy under your belt. Join the fun!

I voted for CfC (nice pun!), for this gives you another kick in population growth. As Scouse Gits(1) (Apolyton) said, CfC are the modern Hanging Gardens.
My 2nd choice would have been Hoover Dam. You can substitute H.D. by power plants, but you can't substitue the effects of CfC.
Manhattan would have been the last choice - it's too dangerous to build it if you haven't built enough S.D.I. facilities. Since I prever huge maps (125x80) with lots of cities, it's hard enough to avoid global warming. So I can't afford a nuclear war. I only use nuclear weapons if I'm sure that I can clear the mess in 1 turn.
