Beta Testers Unveiled! CivBE goes live on Steam

^ From the first post, and unsurprising to be honest

Yeah, I'm not surprised. If I was a beta tester I wouldn't want anyone to know either. Between the flood of people giving me suggestions to tell the developers to put in the game and the peer pressure to divulge information, I'd likely loose my mind.

Was there an application for this? How does one become a Civ beta tester? I've been in numerous beta tests for Bethesda, but those had online applications (Skyrim: Dawnguard, Dragonborn, and ESO).

Firaxis has a team of community people that they tap for early testing. It's not an open test and there isn't an application process, as far as I'm aware.

They haven't had an application process since Absolute Games was running the test for Firaxis back for Civ3 Conquests. Ever since then they have been just going back to the pool of community testers they have used in the past, and AFAIK to break into that group is hard to do, and requires you be recommended by a few current testers.

I'm fairly certain that Firaxis just chooses prominent community members who have contributed a lot to the civ franchise in some way (MadDjinn makes video content, DanQ obviously produces Polycast, etc) and doesn't take applications.

I have no idea who would be playing be because I hardly don't know any of the players that play civilization. ... it's hard for me to tell...
