Big Bopper's Map Collection

Downloaded them all, thanks for your hard work. I wish civ3 had a bigger loyal fanbase..... this civ will always be the best in my eyes.
No problem, its good to know these maps are appreciated. I have to agree with Ares about the quality of the work especially the graphics and units.

New Map: Japan 240x250

Pretty sure this will be the new base map for Modzilla. Going to trim and alter it a bit. I'll give you full credit of course. I am partially through my own version, but yours is complete, and just about the right size.

Let me know if you take issue with that!

Added resources to the European Map. Most of the resources are placed accurately, but a few such as rubber were placed randomly. There are also 2 new luxury resources (wool and olive oil) and 3 new bonus resources (bears, shellfish and timber). There is no Ivory on the map, so the Statue of Zeus Wonder will have to be edited to play.

Good work, BB, I really appreciate your maps. I'm going to convert some of them for my mod. Thank you!

New Map: Peloponnese 182x152
Good work, BB, I really appreciate your maps. I'm going to convert some of them for my mod. Thank you!
Thanks, I'm not sure you'll be able to make use of this next map.

Finally decided to finish this map I started a few months ago for either a Spartan or Achaean League scenario that I never got around to making.

Also added the East Indies map to the database.

Nice map, although at first i thought you copied my own map of the same region. Looks very much like it...
Thanks. Your map did inspire this one and when I was still working on an idea for a Greek scenario I thought about using it, but in the end I wanted more control of where I would place the cities.

New Map: Middle East 220x200

Another map of the Middle East, this one is bigger in scale and more accurate than the previous Middle East, but it doesn't include Nubia.

Nice map. Very accurate. :)

But I'm a bit puzzled on your approach to mountains in Turkey and Iran. You didn't add the Pontic Mountain chain or the mountains in the Aegean region, but Iran is pretty jammed with mountains, not making much room for cities like Isfahan or Hamadan.

I'm a bit puzzled on your approach to mountains in Turkey and Iran.

Basically this is mostly due to the map I used as a template (see image below). When I make maps, I open the base map in gimp and I select an elevation level based on the color for the whole map, where mountains would be red and hills would be pink. For the Balkans I used red and pink as mountains and a third color yellow as hills. The final product was the best distribution of mountains and hills I could come up with, otherwise Turkey and Iran would nearly be covered by mountains. So when I place these tiles, features such as mountains in the Aegean and Pontic regions, or land for Iranian cities, aren't always in the front of my mind. Without making a scenario for the map, some of these features will go unnoticed. Since most of my maps are too big for epic games and are meant as a base for scenarios, I figure those who download the maps will be able to decide what would be the best modifications for themselves.

I get where you're comming from. In general though, I would advice against using elevation as the sole determinator for mountains. Iran has a lot of plateaus and high land plains, which end up as mountains.

Don't get me wrong though, you're maps are quite good.

Holy crap, you are prolific. And these are goood. Can't believe I missed all these before. I'm not playing CivIII currently but next time I do I'll definitely crank up on one of these. Thanks for a great contribution.

Not at all. I get that every map can be fine tuned a bit.

Thanks. I've only played an epic game on the Europe map myself, I've uploaded the mod I made for the map HERE, nothing much, but it adds a few nations to cover the map. When I used to play CTP2 the Alexander the Great Map was always a favorite.

New Map: Aegean Sea 230x244

Hmm, very nice map, and there are all of the lovely one-tile island for the AI to sit on and to put some of my Boosted Barbarians on to drive myself and the AI to distraction. I will have to have some fun with it.
