BirdNES: 1500 AD: A New World

Oh jihad..

Pretty good update.. shame some of my explorers went missing :(

OOC: Not going to work this time, erez. It shouldn't, certainly, and I will be annoyed if Birdy lets it work just because someone wants a nation. Persia's already made it a religious war, has already called up the Shiite jihadis, and there aren't any Sunnis left in the Holy Land.

from Muhammad of Jerusalem:

to the Persian Shah:
You have lost Jerusalem to the dark evil of Ethiopia. I give you one year before we return to bring havoc on all that is not the perfect Islam.

to Ethiopia:
Retreat for the holy lands and from Jerusalem or suffer the consequences.

OOC: BirdJaguar I'll love to remember my old stats (mostly my faction leader, i'm sure he is not dead yet.) And I think you may need to make a new Jihad stats (or just work from the old once, since it is with the same leadership).

Erez: Perfectionist is correct about their being no sunnis in the Holy Land and that Bombshoo has already called on the faithful to rise up and defend their God. If you want to join, you will have to choose somewhere outside of the Middle East. Indian nations (either type) or a new african state are the best choices. China has just put down a rebellion, so that is not an option. Europe is too messy at the moment to support anything new. You can pm me any ideas and I will let you know what I think.

OOC: Nope. Egypt is pacified, and Bird doesn't let players start revolts.

He can revolt as Egypt can't he?
No he cannot start a revolt in Egypt. Players who feel the need to break the growing power of Ethiopia will have to find an alternative method. ;)

I do allow new players to enter the game through revolution (Greece, the Netherlands, Sweden, Mamarid Sultanate, Order of St STephen), but only as makes sense and if it will enhance play for all. I am reluctant to allow players to fund NPC rebellions to simply further their own ends. If an NPC rebellion occurs because I feel it is appropriate, then of course players may exploit it to their own advantage.

Perfectionist has done a good job of pacifying Egypt to Coptic rule and for the time being their is little chance of a "spontaneous" rebellion. But I cannot predict what his next moves will be so I cannot guarantee anything. ;)

La la la la la.....
Very nice. I expected A LOT worse. There are two little things though: 1.) I am completely unaware of any islands in my territory called Peurto Rico or cities called San Juan; there is, however, an island of Borikén and a city of Mexico-Borikén, and 2.) how did none of the fortifications I had developed over nearly the past decade and a half have any effect? I recognise that my lack of orders damaged me, as it should have, but I developed those fortifications and readied my troops there for a reason and I would expect them (as well as the numerous Black and Amerindian slaves I liberated and Aztec immigrants) to have given some sort of resistance.

Anyhow, lovely update. I am very pleased with how you handled my troops in Calusa. Not exactly what I would have done, but pretty damn close. I will have an updated colonies map for you as soon as the Khmer, Japan, and Bengal provide me with the names for their unnamed colonies.

EDIT: I need names for the Portuguese colonies as well.

I have made a few minor changes to the 1569 map and posted it. It is now the most current version.

OOC: I disagree. I didn't start in Jerusalem last time either. And Sunni aren't Shiite. I'm also playing the same guy who made the last Jihad so he has some fame on that. I don't intend to start in Egypt either.

And Bombshoo, IC, You got one year to take back Jerusalem. We have no plans to help you in this war. The Holy cities are my only concerns.

Erez.."IC" ? You have no character to play. I hope Bird doesn't allow you to play, no offence. Take a nation that already exhists..America is ripe.

@Birdy - stats tonight?

Bird, could you please stop ignoring my post? I would really like a response to my criticism and question, just as everyone else has gotten a response.

Yes I used OTL names instead of your "Boriken", a lapse on my part. Sorry.

Any fortifications on Boriken made no difference since the orders were sufficient enough for the plans to fail. I wrote the update to reflect the order failures and not any combat events since in my mind that was what was important to convey.

I have pmed Erez regarding his hope for a sunni jihad. It is not going to happen, at least not now. Player actions, though, can always change things in ways I do not anticipate. :mischief:

PMs and posts have kept me away from the stats so far today and I have errands to do this afternoon. But I am hopeful I can get to the stats tonight.

Well in any case the character I made is still alive. If Persia is gone he could put the Shiite and Sunni behind him instead of Persia and try... But Understood. For now Muhammad the second will remain low.

"You are Abdul?" The guard asked gruffly. Mehreka Nan nodded. The guard stared at him suspiciously for a moment, and Mehreka Nan tensed. But then the guard nodded, and said "Go in. He's expecting you." He opened the door, and Mehreka Nan walked in. The room inside was well lit, but filled with smoke. Three men sat in a circle, at the feet of an immensely old man with enormous moustaches. Mehreka Nan approached. "You are Muhammad?" The old man nodded slowly. Mehreka Nan came closer, and bowed low. "What do you want?" Muhammad asked. "Do you desire to fight for your faith?" Mehreka Nan rose, and his demeanour suddenly changed. Gone was the submissiveness. Now he sneered, and said contemptuously, "No, old man. I merely wanted to tell you that the Emperor sends his regards." A look of shock slowly spread across Muhammad's face. With blinding speed, Mehreka Nan pulled out his hidden pistol, and before the old man could move, shot him between the eyes.

Ha! He's not alive any more. :p

He ain't in any of your lands. Ad besides he promise that his family will forever produce someone who will defend Jerusalem from none Islamic.

@ Bird - why did my troops do nothing in the Suez area?

Also, since i have a TP in africa next to the colony persia took.. and presumably my navy/army had to sail past it.. knowing we were going to war with them elsewhere? they would do nothing.

Suez was/is a war zone used by Ethiopia to support her troops. If Ethiopia gives it to you, then I will close the gap.

You deferred the timing of your attack on Persia to coincide with Ethiopia's, but you did, correctly IMHO, designate a build up over time. Because Persia was very suspicious of you, I had to decide if events would trigger an early start to your war. From your orders it appeared that the timing with Ethiopia was more was important, so I had you ignore the Persian settlements to protect the secrecy of the main attack. Had you and Persia come to blows in 1566 at the foot of Africa, it would have been a very different war along the Persian Gulf.

Ethiopia hereby grants to Portugal the land connecting her two holdings in the western Sinai, on the sole condition that passage of Ethiopian troops and supplies will not be impeded.
