BirdNES: 1500 AD: A New World

:mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: oh then i switch to claim PAPAL STATES:mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha: :mwaha:

I can't say that was a very convincing post, were I the mod considering giving you the position.

Aww Hell, I'll just say it, that was just a stupid post.

Well, maybe. I envisioned the Pope as a power broker in Europe and not a military power. I am not opposed to someone playing the Papal States, but Rome should not be played as if it were a typical nation. The pope will have limited ability to act on the map except through influence, money and secret deals. Should religious strife arise in Europe well the Pope might be kept pretty busy. ;)

My thoughts on it are still evolving. If you still want to rule Rome, let me know.

I am not sure that anyone will play the Pope, but am willing to consider it, if a player accepts certain limitations. This will not be a first come first served nation, but I will consider anyone who is interested.

Perfection has many admirable traits. And while I am not a fan of that smilie, it is an expresssion of a very fun side of his personality and in the context you used it, it might even be appropriate. ;)

I claim the Ottoman Empire

To King Henry VII of England
From Emperor Osman I of the Ottomans

We will accept opening a trade route with your nation, if you would gladly pay 1 eco point for safe passage for your ships in our waters by our navy.

OOC: I assume I am already trading with Egypt? Seeing that they are in my trade group.

This will only make the impending break from Rome that much sweeter...

I dare say Austria may end up Protestant if he's Pope...screw what happened OTL...

To Ottoman Empire
From King Henry VII of England

Sounds good, we will send 1 eco this turn to secure our trade.

To The King James IV of Scotland
From King Henry VII of England

For nigh on two centuries our two Kingdoms have harbored nothing but animosity for each other, when in fact we share a common goal of peace and prosperity for the Isles on which we reside.

As such, we would propose the Union of your majesty James IV and my eldest unmarried daughter, Margaret Tudor, in order to formally normalize relations between our two great houses.

Again, since I got no response last time.

OOC: This is what happened historically in 1503.

@Germanicus You actually can trade with Egypt, because they are technically in Africa.

Really don't agree here. 16th century Popes were as much a secular power - and a very notable one at that, this being the era of the Borgias and so forth - as, say, Austria or France. To disable the Papacy in that regard would be to completely change the Italian situation, as Papal power was indeed vital in countering the ambitions of Venice, France and Austria, in one way or another (until the Sack of Rome, anyway). Meanwhile, Papal INFLUENCE was actually on decline, as the Popes had neglected it somewhat.

Btw, is it just me or does Bohemia-Hungary lack stats?

EDIT:

I might have missed it, but when is the deadline?

IC:

From: Poland-Lithuania
To: England

We are appalled by your dealings with the Turk.

Good choice.

Yes, nations are assumed to have trade with the nations of their group. Lack of trade within a group because of blockades or embargo may effect an economy, but the only positive trade effects are with other groups.

if whos the pope me or joesf
I'm not sure Josef wants to be Pope. ATM you are the only candidate. You'll get it tomorrow if no one else shows any interest.

Making my own church will be much sweeter now....

You are correct, but I want to see how such a "nation" might work in game terms. I have some ideas about how that nation will influence the game and want to try them out. I had planned to do it myself as an NPC, but may give it to a player.

I think it is just you, but I will ad them anyway. ;) See the Orders due thread for the deadline. I think it is Friday your time, but check and see.

NPC diplo will be answered tomorrow so that any more new players will have another 24 hours to take a nation and then respond.

Would Morroco be considered a colony?
