BLA1 - Mystical Monarch

But those jungles will render our 3-movement riders as slow as archers. :p

And we're also right on a nice coast to the west... it's like being from California... it'll be perfect!

Who was the person who played the last set of turns? Did you finish 10, so it can go to the next person, or would you prefer to start it off?

I played the last set of turns. The now infamous Tientsin was founded on my ninth or tenth turn.

Regardless of what I would prefer, in all fairness it should go on to the next player, which, IIRC, would be you Alerum.

Sesn, I'd rather have you take it. I already explored around a few turns, and know enough of the land to do some things differently then you'd expect... I don't think it'd be a good choice for game fairness.:p

Consider it done.

I'm actually gonna take these before my own SG since they should go pretty quick. But don't tell anyone. ;)

Don't worry, we won't. Besides, we're far more superior to those other SGs. We're Chinese!

>>THE SAVE<<

Hmmm. Alerum’s post was kind of cryptic. Let’s see what we can get figured out here.

4000 bc (0) – I checked, it does say turn 0. By looking at the save for a moment, I think I can see a bit of coast directly west. I move the worker SW for a bit of scouting. As it turns out, that’s where I want the city. It doesn’t give us any extra BG’s (after turn 11), but it gives us coastal access. Move the settler SW.

3950 bc (1) – Beijing is founded. DAMN! Because of my movement, we can’t use a cow just 2 tiles N. However, a city 3 tiles NW would grab it after expansion….
Start warrior. Set research to alphabet, 20% for now. 50 turns no matter what.

3900 bc (2) – Worker starts improving BG to the SW.

3850 bc (3) – Zzzzz

3800 bc (4) – Zzzzz

3750 bc (5) – Zzzzz

3700 bc (6) – Our first warrior is produced. Start another.

3650 bc (7) – Our scout sees wheat to our SE.

3600 bc (8) – BG improvements completed, move to next one.

3550 bc (9) – There is incense 5 tiles due east.

3500 bc (10) – warrior -> warrior.

3450 bc (11) – All I can say is we’d better get iron with all these hills.

3400 bc (12) – oh, goody! I see marsh beyond the hills. Speaking of goody, Are barbs turned off? I haven’t seen any huts ….

3350 bc (13) – warrior -> settler. As it turns out, SC gets his wish. There is no exploration south as there only seems to be coast.

3300 bc (14) – getting curious as to the landmass, I find more coast to the north.

3250 bc (15) – meet a Mongol scout. Swap masonry for pottery + 10g.

3200 bc (16) – Zzzzz

3150 bc (17) – MM Beijing to sync settler/growth.

3100 bc (18) – Zzzzz

3050 bc (19) – Contact spain. Trade WC for CB +20g.

3000bc (20) – Contact Maya. They have Alphabet, but WC and 104g is “doubtful”.

Recap: Settler due in 1. There is a 4 turn settler factory available, but its too near the Maya. The settler should be sent either 3 N, or if the borders will still cover the cow, the hill 1 NE, next to the gold hill. The only visible tech we’re down is Alphabet. I tried upping the science slider every turn, but to no avail, alphabet could not be sped up. Once we have alphabet, if no one has writing, I would try for a philo gambit. I would also like to see one more explorer after the settler and an MP have been built.

We should focus on expanding west and north. Leave the hills alone until we know where the iron is at least, with the possible exception of the Incense.

The ABC/Writing combo is lethal sometimes. I once got Iron Working and 50+ gold for Writing.

Indeed, I have many times traded writing for a tech, even at third or fourth civ level. Because of that, I always try to go for writing while the other civs pick up the cheaper techs. Then it becomes a trading bonanza.

Who is playing next? I think it is supposed to be alerum68, unless we have shuffled the deck.

I was under that impression too, however maybe he wanted to go to the back due to his "scouting"?

Whoops, missed a whole page cause I checked in with my Control Panel at school and forgot to check out what exactly went on here, once I got home...
Good set, Sesn, looks like again we have a tough starting area with some perks, and again we will need to fight an early war for territory (I end up doing this in every single game I play anyway, so I don't mind... Heck, I even had to annihilate a nation that time that I tried 80% water Archipelago. =P
Yeah, alerum should be up now unless we wanna change the turn order...

I only moved a few spaces to see what the capitol's radius would be like... much more is known now. I'll take my 10 right now.

hehehe... and the cow move is what I was talking abot Sesn.;) I did what you were going to do at first, then saw the cow and got all irked. I KNEW if I played I would have settled differently, and since you settled how I did the first time, it makes me feel better for skipping... anyway...

Turn 0 (3000BC)
Nothing to due. No trades, everything MMed.

IBT
Beijing settler -- > warrior due in 4. Too many mongols around to send settler out alone.

Turn 1 (2950BC)
Turn sci slider up a notch.
Look at the Victory Screen and notice we have 15 rivals left alive. Suppose that means this is a large one. Wonder if it's as bloody a group of tribes as it was last time.

IBT
zzz

Turn 2 (2900BC)
Eastern warrior see yellow borders of Mongols, and Western warrior sees 3 spices very close to Chichen Itza... as well as population going down from 3 to 1. Wonder what they just did. Worker finishes road north of Beijing, and starts mine.

IBT
zzz

Turn 3 (2850BC)
Take a gamble, and send the warrior fortifed in Beijing and send him with settler, hoping the AI won't notice before the 2 turns before the next one comes. Mayans don't want to trade anything for alpha.

IBT
zzz

Turn 4 (2800BC)
Move Eastern warrior South and see that all the worlds dyes are in the Jungles of the Maya... Speaking of jungle, I haven't found hardly any around us... think we got a bit lucky and it's not to wet.

IBT
Beijing Warrior -- > Barracks, due in 7 but should be timed with growth at 6th.

Turn 5 (2750BC)
Fortify warrior in Beijing.
Go to try and trade Mayans Alpha for WC + 116gold, and see they already have WC, and won't give up Alpha for anything. Spain still is up 2 techs, and won't give up a thing. Mongols will trade us Bronze Working for Ceremonial Burial. I take it. Go back to the Mayans and trade Alpha for BW + 43 gold. We're even with Spain and Mayans now, and up Alpha on Mongols. Rather pleased with that trade... Set research to writting at 20% due at 50. Can't do any better.

Turn 6 (2710BC - Shouldn't this be 2700BC?)
Worker finishes mine. Moves north. Settler and warrior arrive at the hill. Will Settle next turn.

IBT
zzz

Turn 7 (2670BC)
Worker mines cattle. Now, would someone who's better at worker managment tell me what is better in this case... mining the BG or irrigating. Irrigating would requiring another tile being done before the cattle, is why I'm minning now. But please let me know the best choice would have been.

Foung Shanghai next to gold hill. Set to warrior for exploration. Due in 5. Fortify warrior escort.

IBT
zzz

Turn 8 (2630BC)
Talk to our neighbors and see tech race is the same, and everyone but the Mayan have a second city. Aren't the Mayan agr? Figured they'd be close to 3 cities at this point.

IBT
zzz

Turn 9 (2590BC)
Look at all those Mountains the Mayan have to look forward to if they try and head south. We have a really nice pennisula here. If we build 2 cities we'll have a perfect killing zone!

IBT
zzz

Turn 10(2550BC)
Mayans build their second city. Copan.

Beijing will build barracks next turn on growth. Everyone has 2 cities, and we're up Alpha on Mongols, even with everyone else. It's going to be hard to get the incense connected, but I don't see ANY other luxuries around. Looks like we're going to be trading for Copan Dyes. Shanghai will be a nice worker factory in a while, but with 3+ food, doesn't look good for a settler factory. The Settler factory is the red dot that's about 3 cities over from our capitol. We may want to claim that spot first, then go back and take the Blue and Green dots.

Here's those Dyes... look at 'em all!

blas2_Mayan_dyes_2750bc.JPG

And our Pennisula!

Here's the turn order.

Alerum68 <== Just Played
SolarKnight <== Skipped
Blasphemous <== Up Now
Vizurok <==On Deck
Smellincoffee
bigchief

Looks like it's Solar Knights turn. EDIT : Nope, he wanted a skip for the weekend. Looks like Blas is up.

Here's the save.

Dye! Dye! Dye! Dye! Dye..

Good grief, we could be the India of this game world. Gotta catch `em all! :D I wonder how much money we could get..

Some really quick thoughts:

The red spot should be claimed first. The extra distance will contribute to corruption, but the lower city rank will help with that. Might be able to work a factory there...

During my turns, I thought about that cow for a while. I decided its not realistic to get a factory there until we're out of despotism, and tI hink the shield helps more.

I don't know that we'll ever need to BUY any Copan dyes ....

Gotta love the alpha/writing trades.

At the risk of sounding cliche, I like the train of thought that led to passing the first set. The turns played prove that, and I knew what you meant when I saw it.

Oh, they won't stay Copan's for long. Let's steal `em!

Could we then buy little green houses and little red hotels to put on them?
