BLA1 - Mystical Monarch

I'm willing to try for Conquest, but I don't really want to be tied down to a victory condition before we start. It looks like a military conditon now, but who knows? I think the random start for everything is going to make choices like that hard til at least 50 turns have passed.

Well, that's what makes it challenging. ^^
If we only decide how we wanna win once we see what would be easiest, than it will be too easy...

You don't think the fact that it's random, on MONARCH isn't going to be a challenge? Okay, we can choose if you'd like, but I really think it'd be better and see how the game is going. What if we're hanging by a thread, and the only way to win the game was to build the UN and go Diplo? I saw that in Scouting Sid. Now Sid is a big jump, but that was just DG players moving up one level, just like us moving from Regent to Monarch. If you want to go for Conquest that's cool, but I think we should have made it AWR then.:p:p hehehe... Yes, I'm still wanting to try it, but all the AW players are Monarch or higher, and I think regent is hard on AW. Any, I got a bit of the beaten path...

I vote to keep it open, to which ever way we want to go. Remember, this is a step up for us so I don't think we're going to need to tie one arm behind our back.

I guess you're right... I'm just eager to try Variants. =X

First save is up
Good luck! :D

EDIT: Make sure to move the settler north and settle, and move the worker onto the hill and then onto the goody hut once we've settled. We may get a settler from it if we wait till after we settle, since you can't get a settler from a hut when you have one either built or in production. And a second settler at 3950BC would be AWESOME!

T1- 4000BC- Workers moves SE to goodie hut, and pops Cerm Burial. Sweet. I see a bit of desert in our 21, and since we're on the cattle I decide to move 1n. One downside is that our worker will be a turn behind, but we can have him work the cattle on the third turn. Move Settler 1n, and find some tabbacy and... GEMS! We'll get it as soon as our borders expand, but we have some jungle in our radius.:(

T2- 3950BC - Found Beijing. Set Research to Mysticism on full. Might as well go for Poly for tradeing since we already got the required tech. Set city build to Warrior, due in 5, growth in 7.
I'll let you guys do it yourselfs, but I just hit f10. This is going to be a BLOODY BLOODY game. You name a militaristic nation, and I think it's in this game.
Move worker to cattle. No matter how I work the math, the best I can get in despotism is 4+ food, and 8+ shields. we're going to have MM it, but we should be able to squeze out a settler every 4 turns. I'm not sure but I think we'll be able to do a spear, settler, 6 turn combo once we enter Monarchy or Republic.

T3- 3900BC - Worker irigates cattle.

T4- 3850BC - Nada

T5 - 3800 BC - Nada

T6 - 3750 BC - Worker finishes, heads SE.

T7- 3700 BC - Warrior -- > warrior. Worker mines BG.

T8 - 3650 BC - Nada

T9 - 3600 BC - warrior explores in a counter-clockwise pattern in the north. Have another one to search out the south due in 2.

T10 - 3550 BC - Nada

T11- 3500 BC - Beijing Warrior --> Settler.
Worker moves N to mine the BG.
We have alot of jungle in the north. It's not pretty. Looks like desert to our west/southwest, marsh to the south and northeast. It could just be first impressions, but we're gonna have to build alot of workers to make this productive land, but once we do... we'll be in good shape.

T12 - 3450 BC - Beijings borders expand, showing use 2 more cattle to the north west, right next to each other, and a goodie hut, which I think I'll pop in about 5 turns. Hope it turns out good... no barbs! Worker mines BG. Southern Warrior moves South, Northern Warrior moves SW towards goodie hut.

T13 - 3400 BC - Beijing Grows. Settler due in 5. Have to adjust lux to 10%. Sci is okay at 90, with Myst due in 19.
Southern Warrior finds... COAST LINE! And the desert I saw in the SW... is really just a few tiles of Desert, which we can ignore, while we still catch the Flood Plain. Our Next city MUST go towards the west to claim that spot. Check that... I moved the warrior again, and guess what... there's 3!!!! cattle You guys have to see this screen shot... talk about FOOD! I have a feeling all that jungle will turn up more then one tile of BG. So we know got WET as one of the condtions. Looks pretty flat though. Global warming is gonna be an issue in the modern ages... we may not want ot go there.;)

T14 - 3350 BC - Got Beijing to grow and build settler in 4 turns.

T15 - 3300 BC - Pop goodie hut for 25 gold.

T16 - 3250 BC - Fell like a moron for not roading the cow or the first BG I mined! The team can kick me around for that one. Don't mess the second BG though, and get that roaded after mine is completed. Warrior in the North finds a lite green border to the nw.

IBT - For some reason the settler built before the city grew, but no idea how it happened. Growth in 1. Settler --> Warrior

T17 - 3200 BC - Send Settler NW to claim the spot between 3 cows, and a BG.

T18 - 3150 BC - Southern Warrior finds another goodie Hut. Northern Warrior still can't contact civ with green borders.

T19 - 3100 BC - Go into the Green Borders, and find out our first neighbors our the Celts. (moans) I don't want them to get Iron. Trade WC for Pottery + 10 gold. Wish he had more to give, but oh well. Change Beijing Build from warrior to Granary. Warrior pops goodie hut and gets barbs.

IBT - Celts ask us to leave their lands. We aggree, and say we're sorry. We leave with him polite. South Warrior falls to barbs. I hope the granary builds before I have to switch and waste shields.

T20 - 3150 BC - Take a look at Beijing and see that we still have the option to switch to archer in the next 2 turns without loosing shields. I'm going to keep it on Granary and let the next leader choose which way to take production. Move Warrior out of Celtic land... did I forget ot mention they have furs... hooked up?? Turn Sci slider up to get Myst in 10, and still breaking even on gold.

Final Notes : There are 3 barbs in the SE... they may come for beijing, or they may fortify. The Barbs are weird in Conquest. The settler is at the best spot I can see for him. We'll have 5+ food, and 7 shields at size 4 by mining the BG and 1 cattle, and irigating the other 2 cattle. The next unit built should head to the east. We already have a good candidate for both a 2 turn worker factory, and a 4 turn settler factory. We'll probably want to head east next and take the other cattle we have.

Here's the save.

Screenshoots in next post.

Welcome to McDonalds, may I please help you?

I think this is going to be a fun game.;)

Well, er, that's certainly a lot of...future grassland.

Come to think of it, the first time I played Monarch was in an SG, as China, and we went for Conquest...oh my, the deja vu. Of course, I played alll of one turn in that SG, and that was just attacking some cities with a stack someone left for me.

Good playing, alerum! This is a very good location. Maybe you dont think that, but it will be!:) (I thinK!)

The Granary building is good, dont switch to anything... Mysticism due in 10 turns, that's a great trading tech!

Good luck for the next Player!

Oh yes, I know it's a good site.;) I think our next city is going to be one of the largest cities you'll ever see once we reach the modern age.;) *nods* (And found out by mistake the bids is nods with your hands over one spot to the right as you type) Myst, and Poly are both great techs to trade with, and we got a huge head start. Who's next again?

Frollo: looks like one of the many, many versions of Snoopy's terrain mod.

Thanks. I'll take a look in the Creation & Costumization forum then.

No problem. :)

I PMed Padma, hopefully we can get it fixed..

It's Sn00py's Greenier mod. Been playing with different mods for a while, and liked this one enough to use it as a permant overlay to my conquest game.

I'm not really worried about the title of the thread guys. The Mods are gonna be irked at us... (looks at somet Kraftyness that's happened in the past :P) and I like Random Regent title even if it is monarch. hehehe

Looks like someone chaged it for us. Thanks! :D

I use [someone's] color-corrected terrain as my default. It just looks swell. I'll nevre deal with green water again!

I use Rhye's real world terrain thingy (can't remember the exact name). I find it looks the most pleasing and obviously the most realistic.
Good batch alerum, my only gripe is that we should have waited with that goody hut till after we settled... A second settler on turn two would be a WAY bigger advantage than a free tech... But nvm, I think we'll do fine anyway...
We should expand southwards to get away from the jungles till we run out of space...

Hurray to Mystical Monarch!!! :)
@Alerum: I would like to ask a question: What screenshot program do you use? I hope I can get another, because I cant upload pictures taken by my program!

He might use Ifranview -- that's what I use. It's small and very effective, should be easy to do whatever you need to do. :)
