Black Border and grey tiles glitch

Hello. When im playing Civ V i get black borders around my mini map,also when i play the game they are grey tiles that i cant go on and they are very close to my starter location
A screenshot best describes it....Any help?

You are playing a map type that has strict borders, that does not wrap around, like Great Plains or some such map type. What you are seeing is literally the "end of the world".
