Yesterday i was reading something in the internet about the dravidian people that acording to that page were the original people of the indus valley civilization.
They said something like that they were black skinned and that the caste sistem introduced in India was made to separate them from the Aryan invaders.
They also said that the original people that lives in southern asia were very similar to them, the negritos (spelling?)
So, what were they?, they were like a another race, like maybe we would be talking today of white, yellow, black and dravidian?
I ask because im totally ignorant about this, i remember reading a book about Alexander the great in India and they said in the book that the Indians are as black skinned as the ethiopian, so it seems that the mix of the population was not very important in those times yet.
But, when i see the multitudes in India or in Pakistan in the cnn they dont look black.
I also remember reading in this forum that when a country is invaded and conquered by other people, the aristocracy is replaced by the conquerors, but the countrymen remains ethnically the same. But the people, at least in the cnn dont look black.

Today i tried to find information about this in the internet but all i found were some sites that look like propaganda (i really dont know enough to claim something) when they say that the Harappan civilization was made by black africans, i couldnt find the site i saw yesterday.;)

This is why i ask if someone here knows about this stuff, you know i am a very curious guy.

And this is not intended to be racist or something like this.

The Dravidians are probably more like the Tamils in South India today. Those in N India are fairer cos of all the influx of foreign invaders over the Hindu Kush, of which the Aryan Vedic tribes were but the earliest.

Negritos are the aboriginal tribes. They are widely scattered across SE Asia today. Like in the deep forests of W Malaysia. I think there are some on the Andaman Islands and elsewhere as well. Anthropologists believe they were the original inhabitants of the vast reaches of S Asia, before other tribes arrived fr the north, like the Malays fr South China 2000 yrs ago or so and etc.

The Negritos and Tamils are not the same as the Africans, although the Tamils are as dark-skinned. I have some Tamil friends and they don't look like Africans much. ;)

The Dravidians were the first peoples to inhabit the Indus Valley. They at one point c.1,700 B.C. ? had the most populated city in the world. They were a technologically advanced, but peaceful people. The 'less advanced' Aryans then invaded and set up the aristocracy to accomidate the Aryan Brahman priests and then down the caste latter to your average Dravidian. The dark-skinned people you see today in India are the result of thousands of years of interbreeding between the Dravidians and the Aryans. The first Dravidians were probably black, but unrealted to the Negroids of sub-Saharan origin.

As for the Negroids, I'm not so sure they played any huge part in the history of India, though it wouldn't surprise me that they were in fact there. Some historians actually believed the Olmecs were Negroid. Whether they came to S. America across the Atlantic or from Oceania like the Polynesians is beyond me.
