Black Screen of Doom: Black screen after screensaver has been activated (but no crash

A bit of hyperbole here, but I'm having issues with continuing the game if I am away from my computer for an extended period and my monitor shuts down (screen goes to black-- my default screensaver feature)

When I return the Civ5 window is black (I play in windowed mode)

But the game hasn't crashed. I can use ctrl-atl-delete to catch glimpses of the game, so I'm still able to save and exit. But it's a pain.

Short of making my screensaver feature wait longer to kick in or disabling it entirely, are there are known/possible fixes for this?

I notice that if I am away from the game for more than about 15 minutes it crashes, but I am way under minimum specs and play in strategic mode only so who knows what is causing it.

I play in fullscreen mode, and this periodically happens to me as well when I alt-tab away. When I alt-tab back, sometimes the game pops right back up, sometimes it stays black for a little bit before displaying the game again, and sometimes it just stays black. The game is running the whole time (I can click on stuff and hear it interacting, I can hit esc to bring up the menu, etc).

This happens to me all the time. It's the most aggravating "feature" of Civ5. Disabling the %^#$(@?! screen saver so it doesn't ruin your game is just basic competence when designing a game that's intended to be played for hours. People will step away, sometimes for longer than anticipated!

Lucky guy. I had it happen to me twice today. Once when I had to let the dog out and another time when someone came over to visit.
