So I installed patch 1.09 and launched CIV4 without any real hope. It tells me that my computer is below min spec and the game will try to accomodate that with possible performance issues, and woohoo! Leaderheads show and black terrains gone!

All graphics settings are changed to low but at least I can play the game now.

My computer is a Thinkpad T30 with Radeon Mobile 7500 (only 16MB). Thanks, I'm impressed. :goodjob: It's not a hardware problem!

A new laptop will come soon but at least I can play it this Thanksgiving.

Darn, that means my purchase of an "all-in-wonder 2006" might not have been necessary. However, this does give me hope that it will also run on my wife's HP laptop. :D

Hey all,

Please bear with me, this just seems like such good news that I *must* do a double check:

Can you please confirm the following:
--On a computer that previously suffered from the black terrain + missing leaderhead bug, the patch 109 fixes it?
--Your computer is an IBM T30 which is even worse than mine (T41), and yet the patch still allows the game to run on your computer?

I ask because I just loaded the demo and it has the black terrain etc problems... But if the patch fixes all this then I will go out and buy the game real soon :)

Thanks!

Hey, I had the same thing, so I can add some confirmation.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop with a Radeon IGP 345, an ATI mobile card. I was told by tech support that I wasn't going to be able to run the game. But, when the patch came out, I was saved. I had previously suffered from the black terrain and Cheshire cat issues, but they're now gone and the game plays fine. I'm using the new Omega video drivers, though, so give them a try if you don't have success right after patching. I hope everybody's as lucky as I am!

And another confirmation

It works on my Intel 852/855 controller. I now can see my self, other leaderheads, resources instead of shadows, the real FOW. It appears a bit slower, but i'll do a restart of my comp to make sure it's not something else otherwise i'll settle for this.

I'm thinking of posting a bug report for the new patch.

bug: Incorrect anouncement the game won't run b/c it's below minimum specs.

:woohoo:

Yep, 1.09 has fixed the Black Terrain / Fog of War / Cheshire Cat bugs on my sh*t work laptop with its sh*t Intel(R) 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller. No more all-techs-reveal-world-map for me. ;) Civ4 now reports that my laptop is below minimum specs and won't run, which is wrong; Civ4 does, infact, run better than before. :D

Both confirmed. In fact, I turned the graphics settings back to High and it runs perfectly.

The game is still a bit slow, but that's nothing to do with graphics, and a standard map is surely playable. (I'm almost into end game)

Same for me, I have an HP Pavilion ze5300, with the same graphics card. :)

Toshiba laptop with geforce4 420 Go.

Black terrain and shiny leaderheads gone. Still some glitches around the border areas and the blue light around upgradable units. Large rectangular squares instead. But these issues are on and off and minor.

civ4 had black terrian and ghost leaders on my desktop, worked on my laptop though, installed the new patch last night on my desktop, leaders fixed, terrian is STILL black. so it helps, but it wont be a fix for everyone

Did you install new drivers? Or tried Omega Drivers? The patch also didn't fix the black terrain for me, but the Omega Drivers did..

Black Terrain and Cheshire faces are gone. I run an old laptop with an Intel 8xx "graphics card" and it seems to run fine. I'm sure my graphics aren't what they're supposed to be but I really don't care about graphics in a civ game. What I find annoying is that the game tells me I dont meet the minimum requirements every time I open the game. Thanks, I already knew that. Also, it flat out lies to me and tells me CivIV won't run on this hardware setup which is just completely untrue. Other than usually restricting myself to a standar map and tolerating what are likely subpar graphics which i don't even notice, my game runs perfectly and I find it kind of annoying that Firaxis designed a patch that lies to you everytime you play the game.

will omega drives work for this?

Just a word of caution: with the patch, I can technically run the game on my slow tablet PC (with one of those Intel graphics chips), but it's so slow that it's not what I would call "playable". This is not a complaint. I didn't expect it to work on the tablet and the game still plays smoothly on my desktop, but just because you can now play the game on a low-end machine doesn't mean your going to want to...

Jesus himself couldn't perform miracles on that one mazzz.

BLACK terrain is still here.
Leaderheads are ok, even if some have no iris in their eyes.
(waiting for another patch)
