Blackened Skies

Brazil announces its departure from the Socialist Internationale. This is under no ill will and we do hope that we can still be diplomatically cordial with the SocIntern in the future. Geopolitical realities are the result of our departure, not hostility between us and the other members.

Furthermore, we seek to join the Democratic League.

The Imperial Domain of Australasia defers to the Grand Republic of Argentina on the question of Brazilian membership in the Democratic League.

We greet our Brazilian friends with open arms into the Democratic League, and we are happy to see that you broke free of the influence of countries that may not care for your well-being.

ANNOUNCER: Thank you for listening to Radio Istanbul. Presidential Karga will address to Parliament and the nation within a few minutes. The President plans to speak about the world situation along with future plans for the country. I see the President has now entered the Parliament and is walking toward the podium flanked by his security detail. He now has stepped up to the podium and has taken some note cards from his jacket and is preparing to speak.

KARGA: Thank you, thank you all, please be seated. Members of Parliament, citizens of Turkey and the world I greet you. Today is a proud day for Turkish state and for Turks everywhere. We have accomplished great things in our plans of National Renewal, we have reclaimed our place amongst the Great Powers of the World!

APPLAUSE

KARGA: The world is in turmoil. War is being waged on nearly every continent between monarchy and republics, socialism and capitalism. New and deadlier weapons are being developed and science and technology, which could benefit hundreds of thousands, are being used to kill them even faster. All of these things you already know. You read them in the newspapers and see them in the cinemas. Many people have asked me what Turkey should do. Should we involve ourselves? Other countries have asked for our aid, promising us future rewards. What is our answer? Our answer shall be NO!

APPLAUSE

KARGA: Have we forgotten how these various empires planned our division and profited off our misery only a few years ago? Do we really trust these countries to honor those post-war promises? Why should spend our blood and treasure to benefit others? Let us be neutral, let those empires sow their own seeds of destruction.

APPLAUSE

While other countries try to hold on to their past, we seek a better future. We will establish a Ministry of Science and Technology to plan our scientific research and development. Already we have developed better rockets to carry scientific instruments above the surface of the earth. These rockets shall also be used to develop better weapons for our defense. Our petroleum resources are fueling the world and our economy continues to grow. Our Armies will be modernized and continue to train to a higher standard.

APPLAUSE

However, all these ideas mean nothing without the support of you the people. I call upon you, man or woman, young or old, soldier or civilian to give your total support to this program. This requires total dedication and sacrifice and vigilance against our enemies. Together we can accomplish many things.

I am a Turk, honest and hardworking.
My principle is to protect the younger, to respect the elder,
to love my homeland and my nation more than myself.
My ideal is to rise, to progress.
My existence shall be dedicated to the Turkish existence.

APPLAUSE

ANNOUNCER: This is Radio Istanbul bringing you the Presidential address to the nation. In a few minutes we will return to our regular programming.

Wiser words have not been spoken.

The United States signs and thanks the Govenrment of Germany for its level head in the matter.
The Government of the German Union also would like to thank the President of the United States for his patience, understanding, and dedication to peace. May it serve a lesson to Iberia that paternalistic mass hysteria never leads to a better tomorrow.

you couldn't possibly fit a sizable audience into a recording studio

you'd need a lot of mics to capture the applause

Extract from the Memoirs of Sir George Pendleton
India was in an untenable position, it had always been. After the failed attempts for self governance during the 20s India was left floundering with something that was a Government but had no authority. Tensions were always high with the locals, especially after Trevelyan began to force his dream of equality of opportunity on all of them. Frankly when Tom Black dissolved Parliament it was the only thing that kept India from collapsing the next year.

Consider that at the top of the hierarchy was the Queen and Tom Black and then came Trevelyan and Gunfleet. Trevelyan and Gunfleet hated Tom Black. Next on the ladder was the princes and the ICS. The Princes hated Trevelyan. Next on the ladder came the people of India, who were divided. The power structure was so full of infighting that there would never be true unity until something broke, until the whole structure was torn down and built up again...

Extract from an Interview of Sir George Pendleton and Lord Rochester used as part of the Rochester Report
Rochester: So when Grumman took over as Governor-General he sent an aide to begin the transferal process yes?

Pendleton: Yes, that was Captain Roger Penrose.

Rochester: Did you brief him on everything that was going on?

Pendleton: Well, we didn't know we could trust him, we didn't know anything of what was going to happen. So he was briefed on almost everything. Though I feel I should add here that we did eventually give a full brief eventually.

Extract from Let There Be No More War by Dr Victoria Brown
In those months we came under direct control of Colin Hay. We were worried that Grumman wouldn't cooperate and we knew we needed to defend ourselves. Project Harrow went off the books, as did our sister projects. We were tucked quickly and discreetly into the Army's budget. Security tightened up quickly and to an unprecedented extent. We were at the time also building up for Police activities in China and the war with France and Germany though I highly doubt that war was the driving motivation of our secrecy.

Diary of Captain Roger Penrose
Yesterday we went down to the docks to begin loading up our ships destined for the European front. Now that Grumman has taken over the reigns in India my job here is done but my job in Africa is just beginning. I'm to serve as liaison between the British and India forces in Africa.

The Indian troops are different that ours, but they seem spirited, they seem loyal to the Queen. And in these times that is what we need from the Dominion troops. I was talking to Pendleton over lunch, the news had just come in of Australasia officially joining the Democratic league. Pendleton was of the opinion that if Trevelyan hadn't died then this would never have happened. I'm not so sure, this was a long time coming and no one could stop it.

Extract from material sent to all Headteachers of Schools in India regarding the National Mathematics Prize
Any pupil over the age of seventeen with a knowledge of English may apply for the award however due to how competitive this award is we only allow each school to put forward one applicant. The application form should be filled in by the applicant or teacher and sent off to the Indian Education Office in Bombay. The office will then send back a test paper to be completed by the applicant in the Regional Schools Office. Following this the top 100 applicants from across the nation will be invited to Bombay for a further test of their abilities and a week long intensive maths course. These 100 are to be directly admitted to any University in India of their choice or they can receive a letter or recommendation signed by the Secretary of State for Indian Education and the Governor General himself for any other University. At the end of the week ten applicants who showed the most promise will be offered an exciting job within the Government that will include part time study towards a degree in Mathematics or Electronics while offering hands on experience working on computational methods in a scientific environment!

Sir George Pendleton addressing the Teaching Union of India
It has been for the longest time the vision of this Government to ensure that everyone born under our protection will receive the same rights to education as anyone else throughout the British Empire. Many of us warmly received the Indian Education Act as something that transcended ethnicity, caste and language - something that brought us together. I would like to congratulate you all on making that dream a reality, we are seeing constantly the fruits of this initiative, our peoples are all come together as one - citizens of the Empire, and people of India.

This year we are beginning the National Mathematics Prize a true fruit of our labours. We will be opening the gates to all Indians to enter this field. It will be a goal to strive for and a reward to give students the lift the need to reach the best universities no matter what their caste or background. It is my opinion that the fact we can begin to offer this prize is evidence enough that our education plan has worked and that India is a better place for it!

However I know this is a time of fear for many of you. Violence against teachers has been on the rise. I find it totally abhorrent that people would attack innocents only because they sought to teach our children and pass down knowledge. Branches of the British Army in India are as we speak being mobilised to perform police duties to ensure the safety of teachers and students alike. Not a year has gone by recently where there has not been some high profile attack on education and our administration will not stand for it, neither shall the people of India.

The Colonial Administration is making a promise to you teachers this day: we will do everything in our power to stop the violence against the innocent and bring to justice those who would stand in the way of our children's future. This we promise you, and let it be a promise to all Indians, to every last parent and child, your future is safe.

Ooc: Something that has been bugging me forever. What name is Jeanne? It is definitely not Spanish and I have trouble even thinking that it could be a male name.

You would have to ask Crezth about that, but Argentina has a pretty diverse nation due to the high levels of immigration there. I'm sure there was a Jeanne or two :)

Ooc: my orders are going to be in late. The 8th the earliest.

We are always accepting new players!

My recommendations depend on what you're looking for to be honest.

Australasia recently opened and is a pretty major power. They recently have claimed a lot more independence due to Britain's rising fascination with Fascism, while Australasia is embracing liberty and democracy. It's still loyal to the United Kingdom though and is strongly considering sending in troops to help fight against the Germans.

Persia had a nasty war with the Ottomans but is recovering decently well, has quite a bit of oil money to play with, and a solid education system.

Morocco is fighting on again off again with France, and it seems with the new US treaty, it will be off again. French and Spanish capital have flowed in from exiles though, and Casablanca is growing in stature as a financial capital/

Portugal still has its empire, and while it just suffered a major defeat, it's going to be able to recover and you'd be one of the few non Socialist Western European powers.

Central America is a socialist nation that is still trying to figure out its path. You could definitely make an impact here.

Siam is a Buddhist extremist nation that is recovering from an invasion by China and while they were defeated, they can definitely recover.

Of course, if you're looking to jump into war, I can definitely recommend the Free State of Poland or Communist Vietnam as two exciting rebel nations.

Portugal is also a faithful US ally and friend.

Hi, all, I'm back. Sorry for the delay and missing orders, I've had a busy few months :(

I've just sent orders for the next update, hopefully I'm not too late. The MAP lives on!

Persia has some oil money (royalties, rent) but its oil assets are owned and held by British Petroleum, keep in mind.
