Blind leading the blind *Sponsered by: Bad decisions and generally bad planning*

lurker's comment: 1st, there should be an automatic 'u''color=green'lurker's comment:'/color''/u' tag on this forum

IMHO a 'delayed blast' sounds better, for them, as a constructive criticism thingy - it will deny the "parroting".

lurker's comment: Be patient. I think the biggest problem is the SG universe of players you're looking for is somewhat limited. I don't think they check in here much. One idea is to find one of the "What do you think cuz I'm a noob" threads and ask them if they'd be interested.

Ummm...ok back on topic..SW if an idiot understands you correctly the idiots pick up on turn 40 then an idiot plays 10 and these guys play 10? Ultimately it's up to Blackjac.

As this will be a team effort any decision will ultimately lie with the team. I'd like to think once others sign-up (here's hoping they do) that each and every one of us takes as much responsibility as the next person. I'm all for your ideas, as they would help improve my game, the next person may not share my opinion though.

lurker's comment: You might want to post a thread in the General section with a link, since that is where most of the newbs come in with questions.

Thanks, yes

I made a handfull Emperor attempts,won 2.
Both as Germany and both Diplomatic.
Also I never played a SG before.
I would gladly join the team.

So,no Diplomatic victory allowed?
Also I'm not expansionist fan,same
for seafaring civs. All other traits are ok.

I just took myself the liberty to do just that HERE and I hope that is OK with you BlackJAC. If it isn't well I guess I'm qualified for the game of Bad Decisions :D

Feel free to do what you want mate. It's as much your game as it is mine now.

I'm relaxing the rules by doing this, but welcome aboard Tatran

No diplomatic due to the fact I've never managed a victory in the past by using this method, no matter how well I think I did. It's also a waste of sheilds building the UN just to stop the AI from getting their hands on it.

Also, taking into account your only victories have come through diplomacy it's probably a good thing that you'll have to achieve victory by other means.

The only diplomacy I like to be using come the modern era is tanks, bombers and arty.

Hmm, i thought those images would've shown without the links. I can never get the hang of posting pictures.

lets see if this works,

Difficult choice.

No. 1
Some how I always prefer this kind of start.
Move settler to SW to the unshielded grassland.

No. 2
Good mix of grassland and hills/mountains.
Also the settler needs to be moved,to the north.

No. 3
Looks like it's near the coast.
The gems are very handy, but no BGs
Again the settler needs to be moved.
If it's near the coast,Russia start with BW,
the Colossus could be an option.

So in all the situations I would move the
settler.Another reason to move,not waste
the goody hut.

lurker's comment: If your diplomacy is "arty, tanks, and planes", then when an AI builds the UN, you'll probably lose the vote... so you should build it.

If it would be preferable i can always look for 2/3 more starting locations that would allow us to start without the need to move our settler. Or do you think it would be better sticking to what I've already found?

With regard to building the collossus

1 I think it comes too early and our sheilds would be better used elsewhere.

2 If by some miracle we did manage to pull it off, it would mean we couldn't attempt to build TGL or Lighthouse as it would result in us burning our GA before it would be of any benefit to us.

Out of those 3 wonders i consider the collossus the most useless.

Depending on how this pans out, assuming we have at least 2 other civs on our continent too, I see TGL being the most beneficial from the 3. It would allow us to operate on a 0% science budget, thus allowing us to concentrate on our population.

As mentioned many times in this thread, I can't and won't pull rank on any decisions and the above is only my opinion. You have as much say as i do, so if you have a differing view on things feel free to air them.

lurker's comment: BlackJAC I would roll a couple more because most people roll 4-5 starts.

Hard to say without minimap but...
3 is nice with GH+gems+cow but hard to work with all mountains and forest. Were we ind. it could have been right but now...could be good if we move sett. N and there's som bg NE.
2 looks like down south and have GH and wheat, yummy. Could be nice to start with our backs clean :)
1 looks fine and do i spot plains E? Ivory or wines maybe? Few worker turns to improve.
My vote goes to 2 and 1 in that order but all three are fine.

I don't understand how we could waste GH. IIRC they pop goodies when within cult borders and they will soon be. Agree with Tatran about settling on poorest tile and absolutly not on food bonus (read it somwhere :D )
Good work BJ, I'm :salute:

edit: About GW's I'm reluctant to build any at all since I'm slow at expansion allready, but if we do I think colossus is good and it last all the way to flight IIRC. GLib would also be nice to be able to test the zero science path. I've never managed to do that properly and could use the education on that. Lighthouse I've never built. I go with suicide galleys instead.
But isn't it a waste of the sci trait to build GL? We make cheap libs and may be leading in tech anyway, note "may be". You're right about not spoiling the GA so maybe we should skip those wonders all in all?

Two more choices have been added.

Start 4, i have to admit, after moving the settler by error I revealed 1 ivory to the north. Other than start 4 all other starts remain unknown.
