BNW vs. EU4 release

I've been watching quill18's England pre-release gameplay and the game looks pretty polished for beta - some CTD's and minor bugs, but from what's in the video I am confident that EU4 will have a release on par with CK2

I agree, between Quill18's playthrough (roughly 5 hours of gameplay, and counting) and Paradox' live gameplay vids on twitch, we had litteraly over 10 hours of gameplay. Hell, we don't even need a demo, we've seen so much already. The game is going to be fine. There will be some tweaking/bug fixing/balancing needed, this is inevitable with that sort of games, but they wouldn't have shown so much if they weren't confident.

I just cannot see how anything they do with it can beat CK II. CK II might be the best strat game ever made. I like to think I have played em all, and none I have played can even come close to CK II.

Your milage may differ of course, but the pardaox fans by and by agree that it is the best also.

I don't know how can you think that vanilla CKII is better than vanilla EUIV without playing the latter. I would give it a shot.

But it's my money anyway, Not yours.

Well, we disagree on what a new verison should be that is the issue here. When I see a new version, one that uses IV, V etc etc. I expect a new version of that game. Not a version wrapped in the same thing. I do not need to play it to know it will play just like EU III.

I have read and seen many things on the development of this game. This is not a new game, and no one who is honest should make a claim it is. It is highly modded version of EU III. Made by a group of Modders from EU III.

Paradox until this game was no brainer for me. If they made it I bought it. They however have decided that like Kalyposo, that if their name is on it people will buy it. Well no Mas for me!!

I am now rejecting lazy development. As you rightly claim, your dosh and your time. I would rather play CK II which is the best that engine will ever do.

Plus I really felt insulted when they turned it over to the magni what ever modders. Johan might have some input into the final game, but the bottom line is, they turned the francise over to a group of modders.

Oh. Oh my. I see what happened.

Magni Mundi was going to be a standalone game. However, the guys making it (who were community moderators) weren't moving fast enough or making enough progress or something for Paradox, so the game got canceled.

I think you're just confused, man. Magni Mundi and EUIV are different things. Similar, but different.

Also, on the subject of the game playing the same way. I can't see how that's possible, since they've changed so much. Trade routes that you steer towards your ports, removal of the infamy system, Diplomacy/Military/Administration points to handle internal development, new core province mechanics. Yeah, the warfare is still the same, but some things in sequals have to be similar or at least the same. If Civilization V, for example, did away with the city building system, it wouldn't be Civilization, after all. Combat mechanics have been (mostly) the same throughout all of Europa Universalis.

Edit: Also, I just saw your username. Love it. Dark Tower is probably my favorite fantasy series.

You're confused, EU4 is being made by the same developers who made EU3, not modders.

The laughable DLC stuff aside (why would you ever buy a 3D model pack for units or a music pack when you can use EU2 music?!), I am looking forward to EU4. There might not be as much new stuff as I'd like to see, but the things like trade routes look pretty nice.

And I guess they learned from their Vicky II/HoI3 disasters and finally put more effort into quality control. CK2 was in really good shape for a release, HoD and TfH were also quite good, so I expect EU4 to work out quite nicely as well.

And as for Magna Mundi: I really loved the mod, looked forward to the game, but seeing the state it is now in (they released a standalone version anyway), I am not questioning their decision anymore. Even now the game is close to unplayable. Shame, though, because I loved the idea about factions, corruption and the overall harder difficulty. :(

I know I read a thread on their forums about that mod team being part of EU IV. Maybe they are not now, that is all fine and dandy. That is still not enough to make me spend dosh on EU III .5

We will just agree to disagree on what 4 is vs 3. You all I am sure will love it. Paradox always does make great games. I am just changing how I view game companies after Maxis and Simcity.

And yes, Darktower rules!! Randall Flagg is a bad guy I love to love!!
