Man when I'm sick playing civ4 is all I can do to keep my mind off of laying down in the bathroom. The spot 2e of the deer is a perfect back filler, it grabs the deer, fish and random FP perfectly in its corners. I like going towards marble, but being so far will hurt financially for awhile, but if we slingshot CoL it can be dealt with. 1SW of the marble might be nice, it matches up to the capitol's boundries nice, gets marble in the immediate cultural boundries and is closer to road for the oracle. Maybe we'll be lucky and there is some food in the one black spot to the west. I'd suggest moving the scout back S to see what is N of the corn, hopefully it will be a beneficial city site.

BC 3500 - BC 2750 (Turns 20 - 50)

Was indeed not much for the biggest part of it. Some animals and rumors of heavy action in a far away land is all we got. Finished exploring our continent. Pretty small and we are Semi-Isolated with Rosie.... Oh, well.

Turn 21, 22: We learned mining and proceeded to research BW.
Also sent the Warrior from Aachen towards Rosie, to look for Workers.
Turn 23: Made a dumb move with the Scout living him right next to a Bear. In flat land. Had ordered a tombstone already, but...
Turn 24: He got 3 Exp from a defensive battle :crazyeye:
scout1lk2.jpg

Turn 25 - 31::sleep:
On turn 31 (or was it 30...) the Worker was finished. Sent him to Farm the corn. Started a Warrior.
Turn 32:Another Hut. It was probably our last - tho i did not know it just yet...
lastvillagewe1.jpg

Turn 33 - 39: More
The scouts killed some more animal (Wolfes) the Bearkiller got to the 5XP cap from animals - promoted him to C1+Medic1
Also found horses. Far in the east.
Turn 40: Got BW. Revolted to Slavery immediately. And look what we got here... And the best thing is - it seems to be the only Copper on our island. There are some unexplored Plots around Washington yet, but from what is visible they are all forest. With any luck Rosie does not have any strategic ressource.
copperil4.jpg

Turn 41: Out of revolt, whipped Warrior. Started researching Wheel.
Turn 42: Regrew to size 2, started a Settler to absorb th overflow (23:hammers: overflow became 34 :D)
Turn 43: Interrupted Settler to let the City grow to 3 to work the - soon to be mined - copper.
Turn 44: Barbarian uprising, i presume... I wonder if it was Mao or Qin... At any rate: one protective backstabbing jerk less on the map.
chinesemw0.jpg

Our warrior seen in the screenshot is on Worker Patrol - no luck so far...

Turn 45 - 49: It's peacefull and silent again....
Turn 50: Capital gros to 3. Working Copper, Corn and a FP now. Warrior is done, continue the previously started Settler (ETA 8).

Here a complete (with the exception of 3 or 4 plots in Rosies land we can't access yet) map of our island. The best land is between us and Rosie, so boxing him in as tight as possible should be our goal.
continentvg3.jpg

Notes: I sent the Worker to farm one of the FP. With that and the corn, we should regrow whips faster than the  goes away.
Wheel is due in a couple of turns. We can connect the Copper then. Should probably skip Archery for now.
I think we should take pottery after Wheel and start laying down some cottages.
After that we probably should move towards Masonry and Priesthood.

What we research depends on where we put the settler I think. If we put him right next to the marble, we should go for masonry before pottery so we can hook up the marble right after the copper. If we are going to settle him 2 squares from the marble, we will have to wait for the monument to be built, pop its borders then build a quarry in which case masonry can wait and getting the early cottages is worth more. Definitely need to get pottery, masonry, priesthood then writing so that we can get CoL with the oracle (if that is still what we are going for).

Masonry before Pottery might make sense. I.e. if we can't get a Worker from Rosie soon... The Worker from the captal will probably acompany the Settler, so cottaging will have to wait till capital has a new one (which should come next).

Barbarian uprising, i presume... I wonder if it was Mao or Qin... At any rate: one protective backstabbing jerk less on the map.

Love your reports refar :goodjob:

Sadly I cannot think of any bear fighters offhand and the 'intranets' just brings up Chuck Norris... like I needed to look that up.

I'll conjure up a dot map or 3 right now.

20 turns for the remainder of the round + liq prolly.

Again, Liq is not a fan of strict turn limits as + minus a few to match the flow of the game is encouraged.

Meh

Uber turns as expected Refar. Lots of juicy land info now.

The barb uprising was just . Animals out right now, and someone got whacked by barbs :crazyeye:. I dub the uber scout "Ranger Smith" btw :p.

The long river gives us flexibility in delaying a long road back to the capital when we settle the marble (although one is obviously wanted for the march to FDR).

I'm going to attempt a dotmap before commenting on the settling patterns.

FDR's capital is quite interesting. Unless the land extends further out then what we see, he only has 1 land tile that doesn't have a forest on it (the one 2 north of the warrior clearly has no trees). He's also built on a 1 tile river that has a forested hill on the other side . Complete forestation suggests something on that clear plains, and probably lots of seafood (as we can see one clams already).

Other than the obvious desert, we seem to have some fairly decent land. Box FDR into the jungle area, and we should be good to go.

ok was yammering with silver and this is what we came up with.. keep in mind this is a blind GRAB ALL LAND POSSIBLE dot map and seeing as the land to the east is really marginal.... well "Meh" indeed.

using refar's tainted map... evil modding mojo skills I assume..

boffo2dotmapminmax.jpg

Black/Grey is there to give an idea what's missing tile wise with grey being a much stronger location in the long run.

One north of marble means we can get to work on it immediately and min max the tilez

East is just pain. nothing to see there

I'm assuming with copper right there we are stalling FDR with a few axes such that planting red and uh WTH ever color is north of marble should be doable in the long run.

Comments?

Cheers!

btw it appears great wall counts for +400% GG generation for imperialistic traits when battles are in cultural borders.

From Rusten
{Great Wall} + imperialistic is special. I am a total newbie personally when it comes to the inner mechanics of civ 4, but people with more knowledge than me have stated that when it comes to the great wall you don't get double of the initial number when you're imperialistic, but double of the 200%, which gets us to 400%. Not everything is like this though, for instance the great people pool. If philosophical and running pacifism you get 300% increase iirc.

In essence this means it's a must have wonder for us, even more so than oracle given our isolation.

If we plan on stalling FDR via a proxie war, we can actually start on wall before popping a settler.

Discuss hehe

Cheers!

Uuuh.... Somehow i do not expect us to have lots of battles withing cultural boarders. Rosie is going to be boxed in. Even if we aloow him to settle 2 more cities, he will barely put up a fight when we come for him. At any rate we will be in the offensive role.
After that we have our continent of our own.

yeah ok not sure what liq is :smoke: haha

this effing stomach virus has just ruined the week as I'm fading in and out of consciousness every 3 or so hours. not even sure what time of day it is without looking at a clock.

never mind the wall what about the dot map hah.

Cheers!

got it! ill try and play tonigh as im up at 2 SG's at once . I suppose were going to settle teal dot first?

Teal it is yap. Since no one has screamed foul over the dot map..

One north of the marble means we shave off 25 ish turns hooking it up too. Good deal all around and it dove tails nicely with all the crappy town locations in the south and east :D

Marble will be good to go right away, but not the trade connection, as we need sailing to use the river as a road. Might want to go pottery over masonry first as getting sailing isn;t really an option for us at this point though fishing would lets us work that fish.

Man I just noticed the "no one invited me to the party" screen
:rotfl:

Cheers!
-Liq

Haha yea I literally burst out laughing making my fiance look at me like I'm crazy ("I don't get what is so funny...")

Teal dot works, and you're right we will need fishing to utilize the fish then sailing to use the river without touching boundries, but we'll need the borders to pop before we can use the fish. Early cottages are a good idea, put a couple on the river/grasslands and then mine the hills for the hammers.

actually ok don;t need sailing to use rivers within cultural boundarys, need it for rivers that meander outside of borders.. I think?

UG liq needs to effing lay down.

btw uploads are disabled for tuesday the 17th US time so give or take 3 hours haha. Just a heads up in case you missed thunderfall's announcement at top.

Cheers!
-Liq'd (still:sad:)

What you said was clear. I was in the process of seeing a river connect trade without sailing and noticing sailing says it's needed for trade over rivers.. was trying to connect the missing piece of the puzzle when I read your post hehe.

Man warlords really turned me off of civ4, so out of the loop for these details.

Nice of rosie to place his capital right on the dot plan :D

Cheers!
