Bolt-Action Riflemen of the World

Excellent unit! If anyone wants it, I made a tech icon for the Légion étrangère as part of my Steampunk/Victorian Techs. Like the other military techs it's in amongst the "Devices". Here it is a separate attachment for your convenience.

Is there any possibility of a version with the neck curtain used in desert climes?

If you look at the back view of my legionaire posted above he has a neck curtain, although it isn't as wide as is typical of the legionaires. I don't currently have a prop for a wider one.

Gary, you made another beautiful unit. Thank you very much. :goodjob:

No worries Blue Monkey. :)

The next unit has been posted. This one should be an accurate uniform for the period described as he is based upon a picture from an Osprey men-at-arms book.

Very nice!

These guys are the best of the best :).

Spoiler :
This remark has obviously no relation with the fact the unit based in the town where I grew up is the 27th Bataillon de Chasseurs Alpins :mischief:

OK this time a French Foreign Legion rifleman of World War II thanks to Shirokobbure...added to the first post above. Thanks Shiro for the excellent pics!

Looks like someone finally made the unit I believe I requested in the Unit Request thread 2.

Sure enough, I requested a French Foreign Legion soldier Mar 12, 2005!

Thank you for making one Gary! :goodjob:

"Strange Legion" How strange are they in the Steampunk mod ?

Not sure if you're goofing around or really confused. That's the French name. Strange = foreign. As in it was against the law for them to serve in the French Army, but as a place for "Dirty Dozen" types to march or die it well served the colonial ambitions. As to the second point - imagine Gary Cooper, Gene Hackman, and Jean-Claude Van Damme rappelling from the steam powered dirigible onto the unforgiving sands.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

@ Tank Guy: I didn't see your request but I'm glad this may fill the niche.

@ Steph: I'd like to do a Regular WW2 French rifleman but I don't have anything that resembles the coat. One alternative is doing a hypothetical post 1940 rifleman based upon a picture I have of a 1942 Vichy soldier. Basically he would look something like this. What do you think?

You know that the coat can be removed? It's not glued to the soldier ;).

I suppose a soldier would put it in the backpack if the weather is to hot :).

However, the great coat would look more typical, so if you manage to find one it would be better. Perhaps someone else can find it?

And BTW, about your Chasseur alpin, the normal color for the uniform at the beginning of the war was dark blue.

Osprey doesn't seem to reflect this. I have color plates from 1939-1940. The two 1940s pics I have are from the Norway expedition. The colors seem to be brownish variations. The 1939 "Ski Scout" from the Army of the Alps has a white parka over brown pants.

Actually, the troops in Norway received a new Khaki uniform, specifically for this mission
