[BTS] BOTM 208: Dutch, Monarch - Final Spoiler - Game Submitted

@DynamicSpirit
That was a great move to get Civil Service so early, great settlement of the early cities too. .
If you felt like your early expansion suffered too much, maybe it would have been more beneficial to settle more cities before producing the (uncontested) water wonders? A few extra cities could help to settle more extra cities and snowball into more units being produced earlier to fuel wars, etc It seems a bit like you missed a great chance of achieving space race say around 1500-1600AD? :undecide:

Thanks yeah that's a good point about the water wonders. I was worried that that I was very late for the great lighthouse and could have lost it even with no AIs starting on the inland sea but with hindsight it was probably low risk on this map. And I could certainly have safely left the colossus - since it would've been easy to keep an eye on when any AIs discovered metal casting.

1500 AD space - I can dream... I've basically never managed a space win before 1800 AD (except once on a marathon map, but the dates all work out weird on marathon). But yeah, I'll have to try prioritising expansion more as I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Nice game and writeup, DS! Maybe now that you finished this game, maybe you have time to post the results of BOTM207? :mischief: It's been a couple of weeks since it finished...

I also had a fun game with this one and ended up going to the stars as well, in 1820AD. Quite a bit later than hoped, not sure why it didn't go faster apart from blundering with not moving my palace to the Oxford city that I couldn't build in the capital anymore after getting NE and Moai in it. Apart from Monty, had been warring all other civs at one point or another, Hannibal declared on me somewhat out of the blue but was pushed back, when the Mongols were down to 1 city they vassaled to Alex, who had a rather numerous stack (40 or so) of pikes and war elephants near my Korean posessions that he had been at war with as well before. So that was a bit hard nut to crack with cuirs and even cavs, but he ended up suiciding it all in a city where I got 3 machine guns and the cavalry stacked up. The machine guns all died but hurt the stack enough to clear it up after that. The French were vassaled earlier as I had to get the MoM that they had beaten me to by 1 turn. Dikes and communism were wonderful for the map, so I guess general play must've been sloppy. Very enjoyable game in any case! ;)
