BOTM 23 Final Spoiler

I'm no expert on the AP, but the option for the whole world to Declare on you (the heathen) is only available if you do not have any cities with the AP religion? So, if you have at least one city then you are safe from this problem.

Another problem for the warmonger is where the AP forces you into peace with someone. In which case all the methods mentioned above are ways to prevent it: defy it, get enough votes to stop it, become AP leader yourself, or destroy the AP.

Whew! I managed to sneak in just barely before the deadline. AP victory, very late (1800's, I believe) (but its a victory!) Ramses built AP and had the vote advantage early on, but I eventually got Zara to switch by both of us declaring on Hammurabi. I had already vassalized China and destroyed Sitting Bull; this with colonizing much of the Jungly area, and founding Sushi, gave me almost half of the population on the map. So Zara switching gave me just enough. I had also built the UN more recently, and was only 20 votes short there!

My first try at a largish empire, and growing pop for score - what a lot of work :( and I've got more to learn. Low 70K's. Fun map and game - thanks DS!

I'd think an 1800AD AP win is almost impossible, or at least a huge challenge. :crazyeye: If you are going to maximize score (final score with date bonuses) then AP in 1800's isn't what you should aim for, though. Still... 70k points??? That's quite a bit for so late finish. :goodjob: What was you base score? I'm guessing you might find yourself in contention for a cow award (unless as is probably the case that some milkers were going for the Gold).:crazyeye:

Finally got a mid-1700s replay domination win. If I replayed a 3rd time I'd take Qin with maces as early as possible to build up CR promotions for a rifle assault rather than building out the large expanse of poor production land (mostly) to the west.

Had worst luck ever on GP generation taking a bunch of wonders instead of building maces for Qin while teching to rifles. The AI did a real good job with their navy and ironclads were tailor made for this map. Should have prioritized that earlier.

Conquest Victory 1660AD with all rivals "vassilised". Played the challenger version as level so low. Fun map but so very easy to win. Would have been an interesting one to play being at war with all players from the beginning. Anyway fun times.:king:

I intended to go to space in this game but was running out of time. So I used my GE waiting to build the Mining Inc to build the UN in one turn and won the game on first vote against Sitting Bull. Only Ramsey voted for him. No wars all game.

First two sessions were played upto late 8th century. In first session got CS from Oracle, Mids, GLH and GLib. At 500 AD I had about 7 cities and stopped the game after learning PPress in 8th century (760AD).

I started my 3rd session with an autosave since for some reason I did not get a save at the exit as usual. I started messing up this point when I traded for compass in 960AD. I had several GS's for bulbing toward Bio for my National Park and 8 free scientist from Forest preserves. I eventually got to Bio and am very impressed by National Park wonder. The capital was making about 650 bpt when all 8 preserves came on line with the settled 2 or 3 GS's, GP and GM . Sadly I forgot to build the Oxford until 13th century.

Contender/Noble
Conquest win 1685AD, just under 70K.

I was having fun well ahead of the AIs and got Theo first and fairly early. I debated going for a religious win, but knew there would be plenty of people who could beat me to both it and a Culture win. I built most of the wonders and was having a good time before I decided on conquest. It's too bad I didn't focus on a population boom, as I see from what some others accomplished that it would have upped my score considerably.

I had hoped to have the world conquered by 1500AD but took until 1685AD. I did not accept any vassals at first thinking that even with everyone vassaled I might not have enough land/pop (because vassals only count as 50% of their actual values). WHAT A DOPE! Everyone vassaled = Conquest. I'm glad I had second thoughts after eliminating China, Egypt, and SB. Then I went for Hammi who capitulated after losing half his cities and Isabella who capitulated after losing two cities. That left just Zara and Boudica (?) was I the only one who had an extra Civ? I figure Zara must have "colonized" the Celts. Either way they were eliminated quickly and then it was Zara's turn, capitulating after losing half his cities and pushing me over the limit.

I did have the choice of winning the turn before but in the intoxicating stupor of imminent victory, with Zara ready to capitulate, I disbanded most of my units in all my cities (trying to be cute) and left just my attacking forces. Zara promptly refused to capitulate that turn and wouldn't do so until I took another city of his the next turn.

It was a fun game and I wish I had pushed the envelope a little sooner, not sure I could have made the 1000AD Conquest though. I was using Cavalry against LBs at the end.

In my hurry to finish the game I forgot to get to Liberalism and got it from Zara. I noticed that the science start is a very good start to go for any kind of VC since you advance throught the techs as fast as possible. I could have turned off teching right after getting Maces if I wanted to go on warpath.

I think Gosha190 is correct about going chariot spam for a early war game. But in my game at least Qin had swords very early on. But rushing them would have prevent that too.

Thanks for a interesting map DS. At first I was not happy but it really grew on me and I started to consider the map as a continental map with extreamly LOW water. BTW you really messed Chinese capital with many 1 food sea tiles.. Poor Qin.

Where is Jesusin's game?.. I'm waiting for his gold.

Gold? Why would I want one of those? It's silver I'm collecting.

No time for games this month, game abandoned . Pray I find the time to create GOTM49.

What a pity! It was a good... very good chance for you to finish your eptathlon race. :( OK, next time.

1625 Conquest Win, challenger save... >100,000 points, but can't remember all the details. On to BOTM 24...

Thanks for another really creative game DS!

At the time (2 in the morning on the 16th with under an hour to go) I was just trying to finish the game. Earlier on I was trying for score, but that went out the window when the clock was ticking down.

I was surprised that AP votes were still going on, since the UN had been built and we'd already had a SG (me) and a diplo vote attempt, but the AP was still active and I happened to switch an AI in my favor so ... yay! I'll take it.

here is some autosaves from my game:

Moderator Action: Attachments deleted.

Sorry, but we prefer that you don't post saves for an active game.

Hi! My first post but like many I've been a frequent visitor to this site over the years.. so, Hello! :santa2:

Anyway, could you please repost a few of hose autosaves now Gosha? I've been replaying the game trying to match your stats more times than I want to think of now but I simply cannot figure out how you reached certain wonders/technologies so fast!

Some early saves before 1 AD would make me so very happy!

I know 2 great SR players: Gray Cardinal and Dynamic. As they told me some years ago, there is only one big secret in SR game: speed of SR is determined by speed of researching.

Hence, you need as much cities ASAP as it possible. And at the same time you need to keep your research at high level. Usually you need 20-25 cities at least to get good research rate. There is another criterion: your research rate must ensure researching all modern techs in 3-5 turns. Look at my log and you will see that I did not research any modern tech more than in 2-3 turns.

I took a look at srad' replay. He settled like me from 4000BC to 1AD. Then he began to settle in jungle unlike me. I killed the only AI at my continent and settled his fat lands... + early CS. I believe it was the main difference in ours games.
