BOTM 23 Pregame Discussion

I think the fog shows shores 2NE and 3E1S. If there's seafood, the fogged forest 2E looks like best location.

Good point. Maybe scout eastwards to confirm?

I think I'm gonna jump back into doing these. The last few have been above my head difficulty wise. I have truly struggled in BTS in getting diplo wins for some reason. I may try to break that streak using the low difficulty level, but I do not see perhaps how a low difficulty level can augment chances of a diplo win except for the tech pace.

Certainly seems like culture would be too easy, and not much fun either.

I've never done a noble conquest. Maybe that's a better plan to get back at it. Settle in place mainly because the scout is in a horrible spot to do any recon, plus all those trees just beg a chop rush on someone.

That sheep is begging to be mined. I'll probably comply.

re: 3E1S

Probably not [shore], because of the river running on the south border of this tile...

After another look, I think you are correct. That looks more like a plains hill (maybe unforested); I got fooled by the funky colors, I think.

Settle in place. There will be resources on one of the four un-forested tiles in BFC.
Looks like a production capital - not much commerce nearby. Two food resources.
I would not be surprised if our near neighbors don't have any horses and our Unique Unit is Useless.

Or we don't have copper.

Those possible shores are lakeshores? No ocean for Lakes map? = no lighthouses
Just remember ... ... there just might be a reason why I gave you a civ that starts with fishing..
yeah, no seafood

oh, the good news: we can traverse the canals with our galleys to claim the goodyhut land before the other civs :shifty:

Tribal villages are turned off.

The beauty of the phalanx is that it retains all of the advantages of the unit it replaces - it simply adds an additional advantage. Even if the opponent has no horses, then you are no worse off. Also it allows you to build a more cost effective stack, without the need for spears if they DO have horses. Same city attacking power for less hammers invested.

To keep with Canal Theme, these Civs should be included:
Aztecs, Dutch, Romans (venice), who else?

If by canals, DS means he has connected several of the lakes with coastal tile canals, then maybe this is the game where Ironclads will be useful? :trouble:

Also, everyone remember that since this is BTS, our cities and forts can act as canals. It needs to be next to a water tile (ice, lake or coast).

Really? I can make a line of forts and sail a ship through them? Really, really?

Yes, IF your line of forts is along the coast or along ice.
Each fort/city must border a lake/coast/ice tile.
You can connect: Lake/Plain/Plain/Lake
but you cannot connect: Lake/Plain/Plain/Plain/Lake, because middle tile is not adjacent to a water tile.

So, if DS has given us canals that consist of single water tiles, then you can make a line of forts bordering them and sail your ships in the forts, popping out for whatever. Really only needed along ice.

e.g. If tile 4N is lake, you can settle Athens in place and sail your ships: N (Lake), N(Fort), N(Fort or city), N (Lake). Note that each city/fort is next to a lake.

aha, I see why you want to do this as you are from Line o' Lakes

---
More about Forts: they provide access to resources, they do not remove forest, they do remove tile improvements, they defend as cities and can host 4 air units (I haven't built very many, but I do read these forums a lot).

---
EDIT: ice above refers only to water ice (not land ice)

Thought Lakes maps did not have world wrap. Is there circumnavigation with this cylindrical world wrap map?

Do polar ice tiles count toward Domination percentage?

Been a while since I really sat down to play a good culture game, I think I'll do just that. Eh, been a while since I really sat down to play a good game, period. Prince difficulty should be easy to complete in time. Fingers crossed.
