Use this thread to tell us what happened in your game, up to 1AD. How did you find the water-based map?

  • You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR

How did you find the water-based map?
Well I downloaded the save and played it. The map was right in front of me, on the screen. It didn't take a lot of finding.
Or, I found it to be rather wet. I didn't see any barb land units before 1 AD, only galleys pillaging any fishing boats I might have produced.

I'm happy with my decision to beeline Alpha, (only AH, Writing needed) (got there T44) and immediate trade for Sailing, mining, BW, wheel, Myst, Pottery, then eventually Medi, Poly, Mono, PHood, Masonry. I did not trade for Archery nor Agriculture, like ever (before 1AD). Don't need it. I traded for Corn & Rice without it, and it only adds to them thinking 'You're becoming too advanced'.

Since our island spread West, exploring wb went East. Fortunately sailed to find Portugal & Sitting Bull before Alpha. Zulu wasn't good for trading tech. Fairly quickly circumnav'd. 4-move galleys are sooo nice. I usually have to get those with a Great General.

Thank you for Mansa; Wish I had sailed west a little sooner. I think most games should have him. It's a whole different game.
Curse you for barbs. I get very tired of them. Usually complain on Deity, but the barb galleys are soooo annoying. You can't defog everywhere and the GWall doesn't work on them. This is an issue the entire game.

I quickly settled near Gold by Joao and settled on Ivory before Mansa could get there. Also settled on gems!? Was I impatient? A little, but I mostly wanted a city with the potential for lots of workshops and the Sugar tile. Also settled the 2-food fur, so I got all 5 happy's

Popped a free silver in the hill/mine in the capital.

Sadly no cottages with this FIN leader cus of this map.

Oracled CS (without Marble) and Berserkers are rolling out. Target: Joao cus he has G.Lighthouse. I prayed that would be built close. Shame that city also has GreatWall instead of Stonehenge.

Marble is not easy to locate.

Great start and thanks for the detailed write up.

I bulbed metalworking when a early barb galley popped up. My first tri lost to a barb at 5% odds, inflicting little damage and giving him two promotions. Luckily a nearby galley was able to lure the Barb galley down south and avoid any pillaging of nets.

The alpha bee line is brilliant. I wish I had thought of it. I used to always consider that possibility. Starting with fishing and financial it’s a no brainer here.

@WastinTime never cease to amaze us :hatsoff:

I settled 1NE. More or less beelined GLH (925BC). Oracle built by unknown AI 950BC.
I always lack on early exploration on watery maps, only met 4 of the 6 AIs.
I also haven’t found furs or ivory, Portugal settled on top of gold for their 2nd city. So going for Calendar (in 3t) for the happies.
Even with Mansa around, I did not get much from Alpha yet.
Trying to benefit from GLH, at 8 cities but only 16 pop.

I settled in place. My second workboat sailed due east and had no trouble circumnavigating by 1320 BC.

By 1 AD, I've completed the GLH and I have six cities. Shaka is plotting, with MM as his worst enemy.
