  • You have reached at least 1 AD in your game, OR
  • You have submitted your entry

Posting Restrictions
  • Do not disclose ANY events or information gained post 1 AD.
  • Do not reveal your final result if that happened after 1 AD.

Deity save, but the emperor starting units is the key. That delays the barb invasion a long time. Barbs were not a problem.
Settled west-hill. Started with slow build of a Warrior.

Mining, BW, (whip dog, park it on copper) Masonry whip max-overflows in to Great Wall
I was going to skip a worker, but after seeing Copper, I whipped one into GW.

Now I could calmly settle the doubleGold island and along the coast in both directions. I lost the race to the double fur, but traded for fur.

I was going to see if I could play a peaceful space race and steal tech like crazy. Settled first GSpy, Scotland Yard with 2nd.

Nappy and Democrats were fighting. I even gave the Dems copper to help them out. Then something happened that has never happened before . I didn't know it was possible.
Napoleon back-stabbed me while he was still at war

My plan was to crush him with Mace/Cats, but I'm not there yet. He had dozens of units and it would have been a long game.

My game is over :( I thought barbs were supposed to be the hard part.

@WastinTime Ouch. :sad:

Emperor save here.
Settled 1W. Mining/BW/Masonry
2160BC worker steal from French.
GW 2000BC. Failed a late attempt at Oracle (built iafal 500BC), was hoping for a Machinery slingshot.
Teched MC, traded it for Alpha, Arch, Medi, Mono, IW, then self tech Math, Currency.
Also settled my GSpy, nice to be able to view the AI’s current research.
At 1AD starting on Machinery, planning to use Xbows on Nappy, who has GLH. 4 of my 6 cities are coastal, and a settler is on its way to found another island city. As a fun side note, I got lucky and took Orleans (2 sheep city to the NW) from the barbs - dog soldier vs barb warrior :D

In hindsight, the strategy should probably be: Great Wall, then harass Napoleon very early-- stealing workers and conquer him. I have new respect for Cow plains tiles in the early game. A size 5 city can have 16-17 hammers at +7 food. Corn, Pig + 3 hills is only 10-11 hammers at +6 food.

(I've played a bit beyond 1 AD, but here's the reaction I had at that point when I read the following.)

Nappy and Democrats were fighting. I even gave the Dems copper to help them out. Then something happened that has never happened before . I didn't know it was possible.

I'm sorry this happened to you, but I'm curious why you called this a backstab? It's not like you had an alliance; you said right here that your trading was helping Napoleon's opponent. I'm not a Deity player, but from some of the games Lain has posted on YouTube, it seems that the AI almost always have the power to crush you, and a big part of playing Deity is knowing the all fine details of the diplomacy mechanics and knowing exactly how much is necessary to keep a particular AI from taking action against you. So, this time, Napoleon decided he had the power to fight two opponents at once, and he did so...just as any of us might do in the same circumstances!

As for my own game report, I'm playing the Contender/Emperor save. I settled on the hill 1S. I decided I really wanted to try for the Great Wall, so my early tech was Mining > BW (revolting immediately to slavery) > Masonry. I built a workboat and a worker, whipped a dog soldier and (when that overflow into GW wasn't good enough) a barracks, and completed the Great Wall in 1960 BC. By that point, my warrior had died, defending on a hill against the first barb warrior that had come by. My dog soldier had just killed another warrior who was threatening my mine, and a barb archer moved in to threaten my wounded dog solider. So...it was a close thing, but a successful gamble!

The GW gave me a Great Spy in 1000 BC, which I've sent exploring Napoleon's territory and the land to the west.

At 1 AD, I have five cities. Washington and Lincoln are both plotting, and Napoleon is their worst enemy. He'll also need to be my target, when I'm ready for a war, so the strategic situation looks good!

Nothing exciting to report. I took the Emp save since I haven't had much luck with Deity recently. I settled 1W and have 20 pop with 5 cities, 3 of them on the islands (for trade and safety). No Wonders. Nappy makes me nervous and has also grabbed the iron/furs site I wanted so I think I'll go after him when I feel up to it.

In a testgame I noticed the barbs wouldn't come before 2500BC on Emperor.
So I would have time to position fogbusters and produce some quality defenders. So for the game I chose not to go for GW but try to develop/expand more instead.

Settled 1S, felt like1W would have too many flood plains and would loose the fish.
Opening = worker + head for Bronze. whip workboat at size 2, worker farms+mines. 2pop whip dog soldier at size4 + finish a 2nd dog soldier, then start working on expansion. Get Sailing, Pottery

Expanded into a city N and W first, since Napoleon was nearby (saved me galley production too), and placed fogbusters east. Nothing ever came from that direction.
Then Napoleon built GW, so instead of being safe I got a solid stream of barbs my way from here on. Well, nothing I couldn't handle, just more investment in units then expected.

Settled the awesome island 4th and gradually up to 1AD managed to settle 2 more cities SE and 2 more cities far west. The empire is pretty stretched along the water.
I didn't see an oppurtunity to build GLH. Napoleon has that one too now. Needless to say he is an excellent 1st target. Right now I need to develop more though. I am working on Colossus on the Island. It will get Moai too. Maybe I wil put HE here despite the negative logistics. Nice side effect of fighting barbs is easy 10XP unit.
Techwise working on CoL on the way to Civil Service. I do have MC/Monarchy/Currency.

Empire (''bird view'' to get it in 1 pic):
Spoiler :

My most western city was asked to join an empire I haven't met yet. Thank you for the free knowledge

I'm curious why you called this a backstab?
I guess more of a sneak attack or surprise attack. It's impossible to bribe an AI into war if they're already at war, so I assumed it was also impossible for them to choose to start a 2nd war. It's always felt like an implied peace treaty. I was banking on that.

Now that I've cooled off, I might even try to continue this game. Should be fun trying to salvage it.

I like this map for all the exploration. It’s fun. By the way, I started a little bit late and failed to get circumnavigation. I haven’t noticed which AI succeeded in getting it, if any. Did anybody get circumnavigation?

I was expecting to get circumnav but... nothing happened. Don't recall an AI getting it either. I would guess it's not possible on this modified map, even though it was transmogrified into cylindrical. (?)

I settled 2 cities on that corn gold island. To my surprise, there is no colonial expenses. Nor the option to grant independence.

I settled the west hill. Did mining>BW but decided to skip masonry and the GW in order to get more experienced units by killing barbs. Dems and Nappy filled out enough that fogbusted all nearby barbs from spawning, so GW would have been wasted, and I didn't gain a lot of xp. I tried for GLH and failed. I tried to CS sling and missed Oracle by 2t. I found Incas who had IND trait and stone and marble, so WW just to build gold fail. Republicans were eliminated by barbs. I took it from the barbs with little effort. Everyone except Inca converted to my founded Confu, even though I didn't make any effort to spread it. Nappy is huge and powerful. Inca is huge but less powerful. Still just expanding into the empty spaces and being peaceful. Playing without a plan on how to win... will probably go military if I can secure a tech advantage. Just messing around atm.

Botched this one completely, I settled 1W and had 2 dogs doing zone defense while building the GW, a barb archer slipped through from the NW, misclicked the destination for my dog and the fortified warrior didn't hold against the archer attacking from accross the river, so early game over.

I settled in place. I built the second city on the lake in the northeast near the furs. I farmed the grassland around the the lake and mined the grassland hills until iron was discovered in the second ring.. The furs along with cottages on the floodplains in my capital helped me tech well. Nappy seemed awfully close and I knew he would be a problem if I didn't hit him early and hard. I stole a worker early to slow him, then I marched into Paris with large force of swordsmen and dog soldiers around 850 BC. I took the well defended city but my attack force was decimated. His cities were swarming with axes. I had whipped both my cities to two at that point. With some luck, I managed to take four of his six cities and settled for peace.

I found two stone two tiles northeast of Paris' fish, just across a narrow ocean channel. I built a galley and settled there. The two stone were very useful. I kept one stone for myself and traded the other for marble. I built a galley and settled on the island southwest of the capital. This city has nice trade routes and adds to the commerce of my civilization. At 1 AD, I have four cities built and four cities captured from the French.

As far as wonders, I built the Great Wall in the capital. I'm glad I built it because the barbs seemed relentless while it was in production. Besides barb protection, the great spy it produces is also great early game to steal techs from the most advanced neighbor. It seems to be the Inca in my case. I sent my great spy down to the southern continent (this doesn't feel like a great plains map). Then Nappy builds a city on the coast. As we have closed borders since I attacked him twice, this blocks my galleys from sending spies to steal techs.

After capturing Paris, I realize that it is an awesome production city. At 1 Ad, I have built the Great Lighthouse and have started the Pyramids. I am concerned now that I may have traded my stone to early for marble as the Democrats my build the 'Mids before me.

I don't like starting spot at all, thus I went wandering to find lot of cows GP map usually has to offer. Found two sheeps instead and settled on turn 4. Stole the worker from Nappy. Westward land looked very productive, the second city with 4 cows and horses spammed wars to hold the barbs till I teched to alpha and traded BW. Eventually all barbs were able to do is to pillage my improvement twice and kill about 6-8 warriors while damage to AIs seemed to be much more severe. About 900BC I realized that no one even got priesthood, so I oracled CS at astonishing 575BC. I continued my expansion to west having 7 cities at 1BC and my little army of dogs and cats moving further westward to capture barb cities which are going to be very productive.
Hope I'll have enough time to finish this before I have to defend my land in real life...
