I always loved how in Civilization III the art for each nations leader would changed based on the era they were currently in. While each leaderhead requires 4x at much work, it adds a bit more believability to the fact that you have one leader for 6,000 years of history.

As it stands now with the "full screen" diplomacy, I think it would be a little silly to have Bismarck come to you in 2000 BCE wearing his military regalia and speaking to you from a fancy office with wood paneling and beautiful glass windows...and then he offers to trade Masonry for Literature, that just seems a little anachronistic. I always find it strange in Civ IV when Hannibal comes to me in the 20th century still wearing the leopard sash and leather armorer.

It would be more work for game designers and modders a like but totally worth it I say. :)

I would love to have it like in Civ1 where the number of advisers behind the leader reflected the power he had relative to you(I think it was relative at least).

You even have to go one step further. Each civ should have era-specific leaders. :) I really can´t understand why Firaxis doesn´t use different leaders for different eras of a civ. One leader, living for 6.000 years, that´s nonsense and even for the scale of Civ outdated. Era-specific leaders can give that civ different traits and options (as it was in history).

I like the idea of returning the dress change in certain Eras. The Era specific leaders would require a lot of work, but would also add a better atmosphere to the game. But as long as they are animated leaderheads and not a still picture I'm happy.:)

I personally like the CIV 4 approach to leaders.
Russia under Stalin is a lot different than Russia under Peter or Catrine.
They are in no way the logical extensions of one another. It would be silly to say that Russia will always become communist and always have the tzars and that communism will always end ect.

This said I would welcome the idea of era specific clothes/backgrounds and the abandonment of the idiotic leaderheads. They just looked like spoiled children and not like world leaders.

If my partner in a MP game acted like that I would kick him from the game...

That's because they act like spoiled children.

Am I the only person that thinks the civ4 leaders looked good (for the most part... there are a few that need improvement, notably Hatshepsut and Gandhi)?

But it's perfectly acceptable that Hannibal is still alive after 6000 years? He's an immortal god-king, let him have his eccentricities.:p

Personally, I prefer the BTS leaderheads by miles. And Cyrus makes me want to punch a tree.

Anyway, I'll put my token in for leaders changing outfit depending on era, if only because I want to see FDR in a bearskin. How manly is that?

One problem: half the civs only were around for one or two eras, and didn't have too many really great leaders. Like Egypt, or Babylon.

Era-Specific just refers to the art for each leaderhead changing based on the era they're in, like in Civilization III. For example, in ancient times Ramesses II might be wearing the traditional dress of the pharaoh but in the modern age he might be wearing a suit, top hat, etc.

Yeah, the BtS ones are better, but the vanilla ones are OK. Having them change outfits based on era is fun, but also a lot of work so I don't expect it.

As far as the era specific clothing and background... what if it is "The Sims" like where they are customizable? (Which would be a great way for players to make their own leaders... after all, it did mention that there will be "unprecidented modding tools", though, it is probably just wishful thinking on my part.) If that is the case, It shouldn't be too much of a problem. Just have basic templates depending on the leaders civ type (european, asian, greco-roman, african, etc.) and era.

Wouldn´t it also be fun if the clothes, backgrounds and advisors indicated the relative power of your civilizations (as in Civ 1)? Imagine George Washington in a superpower USA with a luxurious presidental setting with full staff and same man, beaten and defeated now residing in a shabby, dank office with a haggard middle-aged secreterary as his only company?

I think this could add a lot to atmosphere and immersive factor!

That's really a nice suggestion, flavourful, not really game changing, (maybe) not sooo difficult to implement...yes, very good suggestion imho :goodjob:.
