I really hate to play a part in evolving a thread series, but I really want to know.

There's plenty of support in the colonies for bringing about the end of the monarchy, but what about in mother Britannia herself?

Also, what is your opinion of the Commonwealth and should Britain to remain in it?

Let's here what the voices of the UK have to say!

I hate all monarchies and birth rights. They should all be ended.

Only after Elizabeth's reign ends.

That seems to be the consensus in Canada anyway.

Of course, maybe then let the monarchy go on, but give the title to Helen Mirren.

It's not like the queen actually makes a large difference in the law of the UK. The monarchy is something that defines the UK, and in my opinion, it would be a shame to get rid of it. Really, I don't see the point in removing it.

I bet that tons of the people that are listed as "foreign" are Americans who believe that monarchs are always bad, seeing as how the idea of freedom from the monarch is a large theme in the American Revolution.

(BTW, I voted as British, since I am British and American.)

Whats with all of this Dump the Monarchy threads? :ack:

:yup:

The only kings and queens in this country is the Aerosmith song.

Monarchy in the UK is a huge tourist magnet. In that regard, it would make sense for you Brits to keep them around. Think about the tabloids too!

I think the best attitude about monarchs was the french one circa 1793, but it's a little late for that now is it?

When it comes down to it,
what is more demeaning for a nation?

To be represented by an obvious product of excessive inbreeding..

and that person is there as a result of father previously occupying the job?

or

that person is there as a result of brother occupying the returning officer job?

Hang the queen, everyone else gets life in prison.

Problem solved.

If we Americans can keep our celebrities, the Brits should be able to keep their royal family. Honestly, there's not much of a difference as I see it.

I disagree.

From all accounts, the Queen never exits a limousine wearing no knickers...

I have little about the monarchy in England but they are the most prominent of all the monarchy and i think its a good step for them to start the domino effects of removing all "royalties" around the world. The newly democratic world does not need these "special" ppl, coz no human is "specialier" than the other.

Or as a result of a hasty marriage before the son and rightful heir returns to claim the throne?

It is a vestigial aspect that costs the British people money out of the nose for no good reason at all. People will still visit for the palace and such, but they seem to be as much use to England as an accordion is to a penguin.

Now this has gone and reminded me that she is leaving this summer.

Elizabeth maintains a certain dignity that Charles would be incapable of.

Thats the problem with monarchy. If all monarchs could be born like Elizebeth it would be a great form of goverment. Thats why birthright sucks.
