Hello,

i desperately need help. My vanilla, warlords and bts are working just fine, but when i patch to 3.13 i can't even start a game.

There's a thing i realized: the options screen, in the "audio", "other" and part of graphics tabs are blank.

How do i do a diagnosis of the problem? Something related to the logs, huh? What logs? Where do i find them? How do i find the damn error?

That's my "about this build" screen:

Civ Version: 313
Save Version: 301
Build Version: 3.0.3.1 (77541)
Build Date: Wed Aug 08 16:01:07 2007
Build: Final Release
Mod Name: None

Please help me!!!!!!!

if the 3.0.3.1 is not a typo - then your game patched incompletely - you'll likely need to reinstall :(

do the if you don't have Warlords ignore that, I know it sucks - but usually solves the problem... - oh and Welcome to CFC :band:

install the most recent version of DirectX 9c from Microsoft

then do the following for a clean reinstall:

Uninstall and Reinstall Civ4 Warlords BtS :

Try to follow this order when doing stuff:
Use Control panel to uninstall Beyond the Sword, then Warlords, then Vanilla
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\my documents\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\sid meier's civilization 4" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\warlords" manually
Delete "...\documents and settings\<username>\local settings\application data\my games\beyond the sword" manually
(note: application data is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files, also these directories in application data are sometimes removed by the uninstall routine)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{CFBCE791-2D53-4FCE-B3FB-D6E01F4112E8}" (Civ4)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{3E4B349F-10B5-4586-9D99-489A90A8B228}" (Warlords)
Delete "...\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{32E4F0D2-C135-475E-A841-1D59A0D22989}" (BtS) (note: InstallShield Installation Information is a hidden directory so you need to configure windows explorer to show hidden files).
Install Vanilla, immediately patch it to 1.61 (download it fresh from here)
Install Warlords, immediately patch it to 2.08 (download it fresh from here)
Install Beyond the Sword, immediately patch to 3.13 (download it fresh from here).

Ori, you're really an angel. I've already seen your great willingness to help in other threads, i expected you were online when i posted that. Hope you solve this puzzle for me.

I already installed and reinstalled 3 times vanilla and all it all works perfectly, the problem comes with the patch 3.13 i downloaded at this forum. I also have Directx 10. Is it possible, works with DX9 but no 10???? Also dowloaded the dll file of dx9, doesn't work too. I fear to install dx9 and erase dx10, am i right? Do you think this hidden files that i didn't delete manually in the reinstallations may be the sollution?? How can the file i downloaded here and millions of people use do not patch completely? Downloaded and installed the 2 unofficial patches (Bhruic). Surprise!!!!!!! Not worked...

I will not rest till i play 3.13 on Vista, i played it thousand times on XP!!!!!!!

Immensely grateful,

Konrad

I had a look at the logs last night - but forgot to post then:
your files look like they are patched to 3.03 - so the patch does indeed not install correctly - at the very least you will most likely have to reinstall BtS and patch directly from 3.00 to 3.13
DirectX 9c is required since Microsoft omitted some required files in 10 - in my opinion to force game publishers to program for DirectX 10 and shut out XP users while doing so - in any case installing DirectX 9c will not remove 10 but just add the missing files - so install that, the link I posted should allow you to do this.

Quick question from somebody new to this forum, so please excuse me if this has been discussed before.
I am downloading the latest patch for Beyond the Sword (I checked the menu option in Options. According to the build i am on Civ Version 313 Save version 301, build 3.0.01 (which i think has updated some).
It appears the application is frozen, but Windows says it is still running, but trying to do something states that the patch process is still working. It is has been over 6 hours (I have high speed Internet).
Should i just kill the update?

Don't do the patch in-game. Download the 3.17 zip file from the CFC download section and apply it that way. The in-game method is broken. :(

Good luck. :)
