[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

I'll see if I can make three or four tonight, just for fun. :goodjob:

Hope you're having fun testing your mod, I'm having lagging issues testing mine! (old laptop, I'll b lame it on that)

Haven't had many lag issues, although sometimes there is lag depending on which LH is about to talk to you. The worst thing about playing around with the mod is that I'll get into a game and then save it only to realize that (a) I have already tested what I started playing for, so I shouldn't load it later and continue and (b) I just wasted precious modding time playing. So whenever there is a delay you can basically assume it was totally because I got caught up playing civ. That's partially why I can't wait for this to be finished, so I can actually finish a game. So many awesome games lost...

I will see what I can come up with tonight.
This weekend I am going to be MIA starting saturday afternoon, somehow my fiancee got playoff football tickets.

That's cool, I don't expect every leader to be finished by the time the playtest is done. It's just better to get as many in there as possible so both you and I can get feedback from the playtesters. There is still ONE MORE spot open so...

PLEASE PM ME TO PLAYTEST THIS MOD!!!

....sorry about that, hopefully it will be the last time. :goodjob:

Advertising is okay. I like to do it too. :D

Anyhow, I've included more leaders. They are:

- Amenhotep III: I combined aspects of Louis XIV, Charlemagne, and Suleiman. The three previous leaders were known for the culture of their courts, and the cultural flourishing their civilizations witnessed; Amenhotep III's reign, unlike that of quite a number of New Kingdom pharaohs, was relatively peaceful and focused more on culture than war, so I found that this fit.

- Askia Mohammed Toure / Usman Dan Fodio (you may have noticed that I have LEADERHEAD_USMAN in the txt, but I hope you don't mind): I first used Joao; like the Malians before them, I feel that the Songhaiese were fairly adventurous and commerce-oriented, as well as rather expansive (even if not colonizing). I then added aspects of Huayna Capac (the Incans were fairly economically prosperous, but also militaristically expansive, which Askia Mohammed surely displays traits of), and Mansa Musa (yes, I know that he's a bit uncomfortably close to Songhai, but I believe that the trade emphasis serves well).

- Ogodei Khan / Bayanchur Khan: I used Napoleon as a basis (military expansion, progressive organization of the military), Hammurabi (legal organization), and Joao (expansive nature, emphasis on trade).

Hope they work; if there are any qualms about them, feel free to discuss. :goodjob:

Thank you, I'll get all of these in before the playtest is released. If you get anymore finished go ahead and upload them, the playtest won't be ready for a few days.

EDIT: These are a little strange, why does Amenhotep have Louis XIV's music? And Meiji has Peter's!

^ I guess either you forgot or you didn't notice in the first place or I didn't make it clear enough, but that's okay, this thread is kind of big. Anyhow, in one of the earlier posts concerning these leaderhead personalities, I stated something like "I don't know what your diplomacy music preference is, so make sure you change the diplomacy music before you integrate".

Basically, you have free rein to choose the diplomusic, I just didn't know what you'd really want, anyways. :D Hope that won't be too much a bother.

The last time I had the Hungarian module I gave them English order/select sounds, only because I couldn't figure out a good language to use in its place. I am having the same issue. Which language should I use? I'm debating between Ottoman, Russian and Viking. Although I know none of those are close or appropriate, so maybe I'll just go back to English since there is nothing similar. :(

You're not using Hungarian sounds because it is a module?

I think cool3a2's hungarian module has hungarian unit sounds.
If not, or you need new ones for the deluxe version, there are many hungarian forumers around, including myself ;)

You can't add new sounds to a module (there is a way, but it requires installing a new program and is a bit more of a hassle). To reiterate: sounds aren't modular.

That includdes diplomusic, select order sounds, and so forth.

Yeah, what cyberxkhan said!

The reason other mods have sound is because they are NOT MODULAR. Parts of them may be, but the fact of the matter is if a "module" has sounds it is not entirely modular.

My modules are totally modular, meaning they can be simply added and removed without any issues. In order to achieve this effect I can't have sounds or custom Diplomacy texts. BUT the Deluxe Edition of this mod will have custom order/select sounds and diplomacy music for ALL of the civs. :goodjob:

A quick update on the playtest: I finally have more than enough playtesters, so I want to thank all of you for taking the time to help me make this mod as good as I can. I truly appreciate it.

Everything is as up to date as far as I can get it, the modules are all in working condition and ready to be tested and I have integrated all of the new AI Personalities (so even if you've played against certain leaders before they will most likely act differently this time around). The only thing it is lacking which is preventing me from releasing the next playtest NOW is the BUG mod. Apparently it is going to be a bit more work than I bargained for, but I am intent on getting it in. If ANYONE at all has any experience with merging this mod, or knows any pythong (specifically for the SDToolkit) I would greatly appreciate some help and advice. :goodjob:

Yeah, i think both IgorS and me knew that. Thats why we reacted the way we did :)
Modular civs can't have those easily.
But I suppose the new civs in the base version (Franks, Iroques, Sioux, Israel, Polynesia, and Vietnam) can have all of those extras.

For the Franks I just used the HRE's old stuff, partially because I didn't want them to go to waste, but mostly because I doubt anyone around here has/knows the Frankish language. The Iroquois, unfortunately are still using the Native American Order/Select sounds (I don't know what language that is actually) but have their own music. Israel, Polynesia and Vietnam all have their own order/select sounds and music. I plan on adding more audio and stuff like that towards the end of the project to give it a bit more diversity. So by then there will be a lot more diplomacy music (mostly from cybrxkhan I'm sure).

And apparently I have pissed off Nitram by suggesting he use an alpha property on his Ruga LH, which I was going to use for the leader of "The Horde" barbarian civ.

I do not get that guy, he is so sensitive when it comes to comments about his leaderheads. On the one hand he wonders why his are not always rated 5-star and on the other hand he never listens to advice on how to improve them - odd combination.

I don't really want to talk about him like this, but it is kind of frustrating, especially when I am trying to help him out. Now I am no Ekmek by any means, but all the advice I give him is advice I wish I had when I was just starting out and I know a hell of a lot more about making LHs now then I did then, so I am trying to help. But he takes it as if I am personally trashing him, and that is just not the case. It is starting to feel like he is ignoring the advice because he thinks it makes him look worse but that is just something he'll have to get over on his own. I'm finished trying to give him suggestions, it isn't worth it and he takes it way too personally.

I gave a simple, and honestly good, bit of criticism on his Ruga LH. Adding the Alpha Property is necessary because that doesnt' carry over from an imported LH. So the Genghis Khan fur he is using SHOULD have the Alpha Property there, he just has to add it in NifSkope, but he didn't. And now he is saying there is some type of "secret" rationale for not adding it, but the fact of the matter is there can't be. Is he allergic to Alpha Properties or something? I just don't get it.

You know, considering the presence of the pirates, I think I will change the Barbarian flag...

I think I heard somewhere that the HRE unit sounds are some dialect of German, maybe it was Austrian, but I'm not sure. In WoL I used the HRE unit sounds for Austria, though again I'm not sure if that's correct.

Anyhow, I'll be pumping out more diplomacy music soon, so I hope you'll find it all useful! :goodjob: (I'll try to get more leaderhead personalities tonight, too)

That's cool with me. I was going to use a Skull with two sabres crossed underneath fo the Pirate flag, but if you want to make a new one that'd be awesome. :goodjob:

It isn't a dialect of German, it is old German to be precise. So it is probably closer to Frankish than to Austrian.

I'll contribute my part with diplotext for Lajos Kossuth, which, I believe, you don't have:
