[BtS] DIPLOMACY: a mod for Diplogames!

If you want an improvement that can be added to deserts, how about a solar power plant? They usually put them in deserts.

To be honest, I don't how you're going to make Atotoztli's Civilopedia text. I checked the Wikipedia article on her and man is it stubby!

You and your anti-Atotzli rhetoric!!!

I'll figure it out. I am having more trouble deciding on what exactly the Filipino units should look like. Are there any notable native tribes I should be basing these guys on?

And also has anyone seen Bakuel's new Celtic units? They look awesome! Well all of them do actually (he also did Vikings and Franks, but I requested the Celts). I have also found a ton of great futuristic units and have been talking to a friend of mine who is into Sci-Fi so I think this mod is going to kick ass when it is finished. But the main thing right now is getting the Filipinos finished so I can finalize this set. I have to run now but if anyone has any ideas that'd be awesome!

You might try looking at the dress of the Tagalog people. They're probably the flagship Filipino, since they emigrated a lot and live mostly in Luzon, where Manila is.

The Visayans were the first to make contact with Magellan, though.

I found some stuff, but this set is going to be pretty complicated to make and might be a bit beyond my skills. We'll see though. Anyway here is THIS SITE which actually has some weapons, this just shows how difficult its going to be to get accurate Filipino weapons (let alone units). But I'll see what I can come up with. My injured hand is NOT helping right now.

EDIT: See what I mean? I'm not friggin Bakuel over here! I'm joking obviously, but these are the types of ornate dress I've come accross... this is gonna be tricky...

Agreed. Can't wait to download, install and play!!!

By the way, Igor, if the Kazakhs are aliens... I think that means Sacha Baron Cohen works for the Men in Black.

I disagree. The "Men in Black" know everything there is to know about aliens, while Sacha Baron Cohen doesn't know a thing about the Kazakhs!:) I mean, Borat doesn't even look Kazakh!

This text is for Nelson Mandela. It's mostly based on stuff he said, except for the Demand Tribute Stronger and of course, the Refuse to Talk - I just thought it would be funny to hear him say it.

Well, I am getting a bit disheartened that VD keeps beating me to the punch on basically everything I plan on doing.

If you're reading this Avain, good work.

Having said that, I have to figure out ways to make this game different from that. Obviously my future era is going to differ with VD, and clearly there are obvious differences (we don't use all of the same flavor units, or the same colors and flags, I have new civs, etc.) but I want to make sure the two mods aren't so similar that there is virtually no point to chosing one over the other. So I need some good ideas on any slight changes I want to make, while at the same time keeping the game virtually the same as the original version. These damn side projects!!!

Oh well, I am just venting my frustration on not being able to start the new mod until I am done with annoying module pack III. On the plus side I do have some ideas for Filipino units now.

None of your download links seems to work. I only get the filefront- frontpage on each of them. I would really like to try your mod. So please upload them again quickly ;)

And please Implement this Legionary.

And please Implement this Legionary.

That will be one of the many changes that occur in the next edition of my mod. A few UUs will have new abilities/stats and a few will have new graphics.

I'll try and have the modules up either tonight (either by seven or after twelve) or tomorrow. It just takes so long to upload them and I don't always have time to sit around for an hour and make sure FileFront doesn't crap out on me. The Americas should work right now though (someone wanted that one up specifically for the Santa Anna LH, which is not available anywhere else) and the mod itself should be up too. If the mod is also not up its going to take a while longer to re-upload everything.

Anyway I think the following UUs are going to be changed:

- Immortal (will become a melee unit, probably replacing the axeman)
- Praetorian (name will be changed to Legionairy, will have the ability to build roads and potentially fortresses)
- Cho Ko Nu (I hope I spelled that correctly, will get a graphics change)
- Jaguar (Will get a graphics change)
- Gallic Swordsman (Will get a graphics change)
- Conquistador (will get a graphics change)
- Redcoat (will get a graphics change, OR will be moved to replace musketman in which case I will alter the stats)
- Dog Soldier (will get a graphics change)

If you are interested in what stats the new Immortal will have; he will probably now be created to challenge the Greek Phalanx, I haven't worked that out just yet becuase I have a lot of other stuff going on right now. You may ask yourself; why change the redcoat graphics? Well the reason is that I am going to use the redcoat graphics (or something similar) as the musketman because it will fit the schema for most of my other musketmen, and make the rifleman/redcoat graphic more 1800s'ish. The Gallic swordsman will be replaced with all three of Bakuel's new Gallic Swordsmen (so there will be three different units in the group. The Conquistador is getting a makeover to look a lot better, as is the Dog Soldier (its the same unit, just a better looking skin), I am using a more historically accurate Jaguar (again Bakuel's) and the Cho Ko Nu is getting altered so he fits in with my Chinese medieval set.

I just put together (and by that I mean organized them into their respective folders) the flavor sets for the new mod. I think the BEST way to go about this would be to make the "regular version" first (the one that DOES NOT include all of the modules) and then from there add the new civs. That way I can trouble-shoot all of the new future add-ons etc. Now, to make it a little better I am going to add the Polynesians to this version as well. I am also going to need a Frankish city list, or one that makes more sense for the Franks than the HRE's.

I think removing the Austrian Empire cities and Italian cities would be enough (leaving only French and German cities, and the tiny nations in between.

@TheCapo

If you're still looking for ideas on what to base the Filipino units on, I'd like to suggest the following:

Ancient = Any of the Northern Luzon tribes (Ifugao, Kalinga, Bontoc, etc.)
This website should help a bit. http://www.rumsua.org/Culture___Arts.php

Classical = Could be the Visayans, or the Moros of Mindanao

Medieval = The Tagalog kingdoms of Rajah Lakandula, Matanda and Suliman

A good site for Ancient Filipino Weapons: http://traditionalfilipinoweapons.com/Sandata.html

Hope this helps! :)

Thank you sir. I will certainly do just that. Any ideas for Muskets, Cuirassiers, Grenadiiers, Riflemen and Cavalry?

Listen up guys, this is a nice little lesson on double-checking things even if they appear to be commonly accepted...

So I told you guys I was working on new sets for the next mod. And I figured I'd go through and clean up the first set on the list (alphabetically) which is America. So I'm looking through and see all the units I still need to get from other mods that I didn't put in yet and one is the Grenadier. So I pull up my Grenadiers Galore pack (thanks Bernie!) and plug in the American Grenadier. You might ask yourself; "Capo, why the hell are you doing this? Don't you already have sets in your mod?" Well the answer is yes. But I wasn't kidding when I said I was going to do this completely from scratch.

So anyway, if you've played as (or against) the Americans in my mod Diplomacy you will notice that they have this nifty little Grenadier wearing a red jacket with blue trim. Fair enough, I'm sure the Americans also had red coats on as well, but I got to thinking "Why would they wear red coats when their enemies (of the era) donned red?" And even if there were some American units that wore red, shouldn't I make it different? Then I noticed the mitre he was wearing had a crown on it.... hmm... so I go to the website I use to look up uniforms and type in "Continental Grenadier," I got nothing. So then I type in "American Grenadier" and lo and behold there's my guy... I figured alright, maybe Bernie was right about that Grenadier. So I click on teh image and read the bottom and there's this little problem....

Spoiler :
index.php

GASP!!!!

What a terrible turn of events!!!! No, there's no way Bernie, VD, and I have been using a friggin' Brit Grenadier as the American one! So I looked deeper and alas my friends, its true. The Grenadier is wrong!

So I started looking around and found the sixth continental regiment Grenadier uniforms. They are pretty boring, but I figure I should use them to be correct. So here is the quick skin I whipped up, and I changed the hat to match one of the hats in the photos. Its kinda drab and will look a little out of place with the rest of the American units (the musketmen and cuirassiers will be wearing blue coats with gold trim, mainly because the German/Prussian musketman will be wearing blue coats with red trim and I wanted to mark a difference, if you are wondering both styles were worn by the Americans). So basically what I am asking you guys is this; should I go with the brown jackets or match them to the blue with yellow trim?

BTW: I realize how ridiculous this post is, but I'm a little intoxicated.

Say, Capo, the grenadier unit has two figures, right? Are you going to make a black one, or are you going to leave both of them white?

Say, Capo, the grenadier unit has two figures, right? Are you going to make a black one, or are you going to leave both of them white?

You mean their skin?

I was going to do that for some American units (like from Industrial era on) but then I thought about it, and honestly it will take up more memory of I did that. And if I can save a few bytes here and there, I might as well, right?

If I were to do that I'd give most civs a hodge-podge of uniforms. I mean medieval armies really didn't have uniforms per se, and it was rather similar in the American revolution (where multitudes of uniforms would be seen, really on both sides), the same can be said about most wars. So if I got into that I'd be making way too many uniforms and the game would be unnecessarily huge. So I probably won't. The Gallic Swordsman will have three different units but only because they are a UU.

EDIT: Also, I only play with individual units anyway. So it doesn't matter to me.

Bernie said he'd work on a skin for the American early industrial units. So hopefully we'll have something good to work with. But compiling entire flavored sets purely from scratch (and I am going to be as strict as possible when it comes to quality) is going to take a while too.

That's alright though, because for the time being my role in the Alexander Project is finished. I just have to wait and see what happens now. He's looking awesome though and I'm sure after the reskinning and animations come in he'll look perfect. So I have to figure out who to use the original Alexander as.

Anyway here's the latest Alexander the Great preview...
