[BTS] MarnzMod

Out of curiosity, what do you consider a good situation not to found a religion when given a chance?

Sometimes I just don't like to found more than one religion. Ironically, though I am a liberal in real life, I kind of like to make my empires theocracies, especially when playing Egypt or Israël. Sometimes I want to imagine my nation as a theocratic crusading empire suppressing all the wicked heathens. I don't always play that way, but I'd like to have the option to not found a religion if I want.

I don't like to race for the highest score as fast as possible. If I do, then I end up getting way ahead of the AI players. Sometimes I want to handicap myself a little bit, or try to guide my empire towards a particular social, political, or religious direction. Going for every bonus, every wonder, every religion to get the score as high as possible makes the whole thing seem less realistic.

I LOOOVE roleplaying in Civ, especially with the religions :3 I generally try to match the religion I found (using Choose Religions op) to the civ I'm playing: Buddhism, Hinduism, or Christianity for Greece, Confucianism and Daoism for China, etc.

Well see there, that's why we should have Shinto, Zoroastrianism, Druidism, and a few classical pantheons! Imagine if Brennus founded Druidism and Augustus Hellenism. Or Justinian going to war with Darius because of the Persian "heathen" religion? It might also make leader preferences more important. Assuming the AI is smart enough, Saladin might stop with Islam and found no more religions.

Oh, one other thing Marnz, might you rewrite the list of Egyptian city names to make them more authentic? The capital should be Men-Nefer (Memphis), then Iunu (Heliopolis, the religious center in the Old Kingdom), Waset (Thebes on the Nile, the religious capital in later times), Abedju (Abydos), Khemet, Khmunu, Nebet, Qwesy, Djeba, Nekheb, Djedet, Hwt-ka-Ptah, Pi-Ramessess, etc.

I have posted a new patch.

MarnzMod v1.7d
-Fixed many Button bugs caused by flavor units.
-Fixed a few text bugs.
-Natural Gas Plant now requires Natural Gas.
-Knights and Cuirassiers now have flank attack vs. Bombard.
-Versailles now also provides -50% maintenance to its city.
-Reichstag now provides -25% war weariness to all cities and +25% war weariness to enemies. This effect replaces lower maintenance of nearby cities.

Can you continue to play an existing game with the new patch or should we wait?

Fighters have +25% vs. Attack Planes, thereby giving them an upper-leg against Light Bombers. (Both Strength 12.) However, Bombers are Strength 16, and Fighters have no bonus against them - can we give them +50 or +75%? Or, better... +50% and 2 First Strikes vs. Bombers? (Don't know if the last is possible.)

Also, I saw a new unit that had a wood-surfaced carrier. If we have the naval tech path, that would be cool to build in, with the existing carrier capacity. Our original carriers only had wood-surfaces from what I understand (;

I was able to load a saved game. I don't see how any of the changes would be game breaking. But if those bugs don't overly annoy you, it wouldn't hurt to wait.

I'm not sure if a fighter should have a bonus vs bombers. I'll think about. I don't think first strikes work in air combat.

I've also seen wood-surfaced carrier. I thought maybe escort carrier -> fleet carrier -> super carrier.

I don't particularly care if they have a bonus, but the fighter should be pretty good at shooting down a bomber. They were sort of designed for it, from my weak grasp of history.

I like the chain (escort --> fleet --> super) but the initial carrier shouldn't be called escort. At the time, it was as import and central as a super carrier is now. It very quickly became the central focus of fleets.

My current army is suffering from the 10/26 experience bug. A significant portion of my experienced units have dropped to 10 experience at some point (probably an upgrade) but due to their level they still need to get to 26 for their next level.

I recall this happened to Fall From Heaven 2 as well, might want to check out their solution.

That's not a bug. It's an intentional Firaxis design. It can be changed in GlobalDefines.xml under MAX_EXPERIENCE_AFTER_UPGRADE.

During WWII I believe they had both small escort carriers and bigger fleet carriers. Whether or not both are needed in the game is debatable. :p

As for fighters vs bombers, a single fighter might have trouble with a bomber arrayed with as many six gunners. As this is also debatable I would tend to go with standard BTS figures. I also would worry about the effect on gameplay. If fighters were overpowered bombers would become obsolete. But with stronger bombers you still need fighter for interceptions. :)

Is that standard? I missed that - oops 9: Ignore what I suggested.

Do you need all the patches or just the latest?

Two Ideas for future developments of this great mod:

1. Optional Customizable Leader
Basically, this one harkens back to Civ III. Thus, it would have a "box" on the custom game set-up screen. Left unchecked, you would select your nation/leader and opponents and proceed as normal.

Checking the box, however, gives your the ability to be "youself" without having to take up another nation's slot. Basically, to be assigned an unused color (like black or something), a unique flag, select your own character traits, select your own unique unit, select your own unique building, select your own starting technologies, type in your name, and start an unnamed empire (like a barbarian leader) to make your own way in the world.

2. New Civilization War Doctrine Upgrades
Several nations throughout history were noted for their proficiency at types of warfare. Vikings were noted for their seafaring and coastal raiding. Mongols were noted for their nomadic horse culture. Saracens were noted for their rapid-moving, horse archers. Franks were noted for their heavy cavalry. Anyway, the idea is that after a nation gains so many combat XP, the can adopt a war doctrine that gives a bonus to new units because of that nation's adopted war-culture. Anyway, I'm sure a list can easily be composed of different options:
Archery, Melee, Horse, Artillary, Tank, Aircraft, Seafaring, . . . (some more aggresive, some more defensive) or even doctrines that enchance the nation (efficiency for faster production, heroic sagas for culture, R&D for faster science research . . . etc.).

Anyway, just a few thoughts. :)
