Beyond the Sword unless you are into creating things, than Spore would be for you. But if your more interested in strategy, than Beyond the Sword would be best.

Beyond the sword by far. Mods make the world go round.

Most of Spore's fun is in the editors, and online sharing of creations. Demo the Creature Creator to see if you like it.

Like Civ4 alot? Get BTS then. Good game and lots of mods.

I own both. Got a good job & Money

I have both. I find myself playing BTS much, much more then I play Spore. In my opinion, BTS alone is a much better made game then Spore; when you add in the variety of mods available for it, BTS far outclasses Spore in terms of replayability. I would recommend BTS over Spore anyday.

To me Spore got old after 2 weeks, not to mention bts has much more room for creation then Spore. and there are a a ton of good mods for bts and a handful of awesome mods.

It also seems that spore follow the path of all the EA games, you have to keep buying expansion packs to keep the game going. I have been very disappointing with EA's games in the past 3 years.

What about SimCity 4? It's... err... wait, you said the last 3 years. SimCity 4 is 5 years old.
By far, the clear superior game here is Civ 4. There is a lot more strategy there, the mods enhance the gameplay, and its a multiple award winning game.

Spore got tiring in about 2 weeks (I modded Spore, so I got tired of it in a month) and I've had Civ 4 since its release date in 2005, and I'm still playing it (somewhat) often.

I agree with everyone else. If you looking for strategy and replayablity, then go with BtS.

Spore is more of a light, casual game with virtually no strategy. If you like aesthetics and creating things, then Spore would be a good buy.

I've been playing Civ for about 2 years. Played Spore for a while, decided to play BtS again and never looked back, but that's just me.

BtS is DRM-free. :)

unless 3.19 removes the drm, bts is not drm free because he obviously doesn't have civ 4 complete.

BTS definitely,
spore is . .. .. .. ., it's honestly not even worth pirating.

Which, for the record, it does. 3.19 removes the disc check.

I was referring to Spore's limited installs, but whatever.

Yes. I was replying to Chiyochan, who apparently was unaware that 3.19 was DRM free, and commented that BTS would only be DRM free if you had Civ 4 Complete.

Or were you replying to him? I'm confused now.

Yes I am. (No, I was replying to Chiyochan. Should've made that clear. Sorry.)

as far as i know, DRM is more than just a disk check, doesn't it also install stuff on your computer and monitor things? If it was nothing more than an is the CD inside thing I cant see why people would put up such a big fuss with spore, sans the limited installs

Technically DRM is anything that is designed to inhibit copying, but you're right in that most modern DRM schemes involve watchdog software that install on you computer and suck up process time, and even report your actions online (e.g. Starforce, or the occasional digitial download DRM schemes).

Spore DRM was pretty annoying at onset though. In theory you should have unlimited reinstalls with a CD, so limiting it is just annoying, especially since it's very easy to trigger the need for a reinstall as it's common that average users have enough know how to make a change to their computer that upsets the DRM.

Any DRM that sells you something in a store, but then says you need internet to use a single person software, is pretty intrusive.
