Buffy 005 launched - try it out with 3 new Gauntlets!

I thought this option in the F1 screen was new in Buffy 005 but discovered it was in 003 as well - can't believe I missed it before!!

Update:
The problem isn't within Buffy. It was my laptop that's over a decade old.
System processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 @ 2.20 GHz
RAM: 4,00 GB
The game always crashed when the processor was running at 100%.
In hindsight CivIV shouldn't/couldn't run on my laptop, but it did up to buffy004b. (Lucky me)

I decided to get a new laptop (long overdue) which could play more recent games.
New system processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7300HQ CPU @ 2.50 GHz
RAM: 8,00 GB
CivIV and buffy005 are running perfectly fine now.

Anyhow... Thanks for helping and trying to figure out what's the problem.

I'm disappointed to see that flat continents option is still available. That option is clearly a bug as the mapscript was never adapted for flat world wrap. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be grayed out from the options. It's easy to do and surely no HoF players are against disabling the option to play continents games on pangaea type maps.

That's not an issue I was aware of and yes it would be easy to disallow in 005a (which is a bug fix version due in a few months).
It was the first thing mentioned when you revealed the first beta of .005. ;) Maybe I should have repeated it later, just assumed it was on the list of things to do as it has been discussed already a couple of times.

To be more accurate, flat continents seems to behave pretty much like fractal. It might produce 2-3 separate continents, but very often you will get pangaeas, or several landmasses that all can be reached with galleys. I looked at the code quite a while ago. If I recall correctly there simply was no code that would create separate continents with flat world wrap. The devs had written such code for cylindrical and toroidal, but not for flat. Either they forgot to implement it or they forgot to gray out the flat option in the settings.

Buffy005 pushed me over the edge, but surprisingly the 2 beta versions didn't.

That is odd. Was that machine 32-bit? If so, that is probably part of the problem. It simply could be that adding the mod taxed your virtual memory. Regardless, 64-bit resolved a lot of the Civ IV memory issues.

My old laptop was 64-bit

:hammer2:

Oops - sorry, will have a look this week.

EDIT: Had a quick look - I did investigate it before and it's not a simple change, will look into it over the Summer.

What OS are you on @Tonny ....

My system is
i5-3230M CPU @2.60 GHz
8 GB ram
64-bit OS, win 7.
running the Steam version.
was running in XP compat, but I found .005 worked better with compat off.

It crashes for me with .005, but not with .003. (I never ran .004)

SD, your system looks fine (at least on paper - hard for us to know if something is just wrong elsewhere on your system). Honestly can't remember at the moment how much discourse we've had specifically on your issue. However, I think your problem likely is related to the steam version, which I now use myself. I had some issues initially with steam version when trying to get BAT and BUFFY working (even 003). I've posted a lot on this around here.

I cannot answer for issues related to playing above-normal settings, which you have mentioned, but I don't think that should be an issue.

Regardless, I would try turning PLE off.

Yeah, IV will run fine on Win7. (wish we were all still on win 7)

Right now my suggestion would be to focus on the steam issues, and possibly system issues, since as of now there are no other 005 problems reported.

Buffy 5 not compatible with BuLL..?
Getting the file error message still when using my "new" .dll, had some hopes that would be fixed.
BUFFY is BUG+BULL+HOF stuff so BULL is already incorporated directly in the Mod and you don't need a separate DLL.

Following a lot of hard work we are delighted to announce the launch of the new Buffy 005 mod, this updates BUG and BULL to the latest stable versions and will be the last major update to BUFFY.
The game was/is recently on sale at GOG, so I bought it again so I won't have to fiddle with an ancient version. But after installing it on Linux via a script, I'm having some problems with BUFFY not working right. Do you know if the GOG version has some quirks meaning BUFFY doesn't work right, or could it be something to do with how the game is set up using this install script instead?

So far I've been running it via PlayOnLinux, and that works well, apart from some minor annoyances I hoped this new version would fix, from running it on the newest version of Wine (essentially a way to run Windows games on Linux). There is a little back and forth about it here: https://www.gog.com/forum/sid_meiers_civilization_series/civilization_iv_for_linux/page2
