Damn, I was so sure my plan would work.
Well, I hope that the giant radioactive monkey, I mean bug, won´t come to our house, hope it is scared of near Russia.

I am really curious on how this came to being. Does anyone know a good place to start?

Looks like the bug got caught between the image and a glass plate, and crushed, during the scanning process.

Wohoa!!!!...
I'm happy that I'm not in Germany!

It must mean that in that particular area, the maps were printed then scanned onto google, instead of doing a file conversion. That would suggest that an anaogue camera was used.

Actually I wouldn't be surprised if most satilite cameras are analague.

Maybe when the satelite taked the picture, there was a flying insect?

It dosen't look like its flying to me.

I go for the ''stuck in the scanner'' explanation.

Its that or there are giant bugs flying in space orbiting earth and the Men In Black did not do anything yet.

*gets bright light flashed in his eyes and forgets everything*

The bug would have had to have been flying a couple thousand kilometers above the Earth's atmosphere in order to appear that size on the image.

How can that happen? The bug must be on a lense in space! Space bugs!
not all images (especially close up ones) are created by satellites, some are actually created by planes that take close ups of the world (which is a part of why random spots in the ocean don't have any photos)...yes you've been scammed!

Slashdot covered this a few days ago. The article links to an explaination of how it happened. Here's a site of some more neat stuff off Google Earth.
