Bug (maybe) in attacking AI resources

I may have found a bug when you disrupt an enemy AI resource. It appears that when an AI city does not have a resource that it used too/or that the empire core still has, units can still be built. I was fighting the Zulu's (big surprise), and I wanted to gain their northern provence. The Greeks had cut off their land access to the Zulu homeland, and I came by sea. After taking a few cities with marines, he began to launch constant cavalry attacks against my forces...fair enough, but I wanted them to stop. So I blew up the harbour's in his remaing costal cities and destroyed the roads to the local supply of horses (it was on the coast ):D . But the attacks contiuned. So I "investigate city", to make sure that he is not getting any horeses from an unknown source. Sure enough, the only thing in the resource box is the local iron soruce that I ignored, yet in that very city, he was building a cavalry unit  . Now I am at war with the Romans (lousy *****'s made my list in a BIG way), and of course the first thing I do (After swearing that when I'm through, Latin will be spoken only in he!!) was destroy the roads to his sole rubber source (2 turns ago). Yet he still attacks me with tanks and motorized inf (custom unit), and I kill more per turn than my spy says that he has. I'll do some city investigations tonight to make sure, and post again tonight (hopefully with screen shots). Unless someone tells me that this is resolved in 1.21.

Please do not reply to this message with how terrible Civ3 is, how bug ridden it is, how they should have got it right the first time, etc... I'm really sick of it:mad: . I really enjoy the game, and while constructive critisim is good, just  all the time dosen't do anything for anybody (at least not good anyway).

Is it possible the AI started building the cavalry before you cut off his supply of horses? You only need access to a resource to begin building the unit. The AI will not be able to start building another calvary without horses but it should be able to continue with a unit already in production.

I thought of that, but I don't think so. I didn't check until after I was 99% sure that he had no possible way of getting horses, and I didn't "investigate city" until I was attacked by a cav comming from that city. The cav he was building was being built for 2-4 turns (judging from the production progress), and I began severing supply lines as my opening moves. I saw and dispatched his horse supplys on turn 3 or 4. I didn't check until near the end of the war, which was over 20 turns due to a alliance.

Again, no I am not sure. I am going to make sure when I get home tonight and contiune my war against the Romans. They have coal, oil and rubber supplies that are extremely vunerable, and it should be easy enough to see if the logistic war is winable.

I must say I am impressed by the fast response, and will certanly get back to you and everyone on the board with my results tonight (probably not until after 2200 - 2300 Eastern US time).

Again thank you for your quick consern. I am really begining to fell that Firaxis does care about customer satification.

And thanks for 1.21 tomarrow (crossing fingers their is no last minute issue).

If the civ you were attacking still had links with other civs, they could have traded for it....

Mavfin - no, no resources were in the cities box

Well, it looks like I jumpped the gun a bit. It appears that the city can contiune building what it has started, but once it finishes that unit, it has to switch to something it has resources for. Wow! Those Romans really prepaired for their sneak attack...unfortnally, 3 turns after the start of the war (and I destroyed their rubber source), the could no longer build anything but riflemen and cav. They quickly ran out of tanks and motorized inf (custom unit) and started sending rifleman and cav. Their infantry are dying out too. It is really quite amazing how effective resource denial is!

thanks firaxis!

time to check out 1.21.
