I’m not really well-versed in computer building, and my understanding of computer hardware is limited. But I have successfully upgraded computers on my own in the past through doing research on the internet. The current machine I’m using, I bought about 6 years ago, and the time is coming to buy a new one. I want to be able to play next gen games, while not spending so much in the process of building a decent gaming PC. I took a look at an article that Forbes posted. It claims to have a list of hardware that can deliver premium quality graphics and processing for a low cost of $750. I want to hear what the techie people on the forum think about this item list.

As for the system: No

If you are comfortable with upgrading components, it makes no sense to get a fast GPU and a slow CPU as in that build.

CPU power is stagnating for years, while GPUs still get faster every year.

You want a decent CPU to start with and a middle of the road, $120-160 -ish GPU (GTX 650ti or HD7850 1GB), which will run any current game just fine if you don't need super-high resolutions and computing-expensive AA-modi.

After the next console generation is established in a few years, you can upgrade the GPU if there's need for it.

It almost never makes sense to try and built a "future-proof" PC. There is no such thing.

Instead, build one that's cost-effective for you current demands (and maybe the foreseeable, near future).

It's definitely easier to upgrade a GPU than a CPU, and if you get a supporting motherboard and GPU there's potential that a cheaper GPU with SLI support can be doubled later on.
